So you’re ready to retire than■■?
Must be in you’re sixties by now?

I could still do it, the only problem would be getting the sheets on top of the load the big one’s were hard enough when I was 20 odd, probably do a bit of damage.
Wind and rain sideways on Ipswich Docks trying to sheet a load of timber, I only have to see a picture of a dolly and it brings on a cold sweat.

I’ll stick to the dock leveler and cages ta very much!

5.6 ■■■■ is nothing to shout about! I haven’t done it all, but a few in 32 years in transport, don’t coun’t the years before I was 18, as we had our own Transport Business.
If I read your posts on here, I know one thing, you need to learn still a lot, and one of the things is being Humble.

You Joking? 95% of the dorks out there couldnt rope their wife to the bed never mind rope and sheet a flatty.

agreeing with you there fella :open_mouth: kin hell must be new year :grimacing: :grimacing:

so you would agree that someone is a dork because they don`t know how to rope and sheet

No doubt you call yourself a “driver”? Used to be a bit more to it than shutting a pair of barn doors and putting on the shades and turning a steering wheel.Dont seem that way anymore does it?

Your only a driver if:

  • You can handle a Fuller or Eaton twin splitter
  • Drove to Baghdad
  • Drove To Moscow
  • Had a truck with a 2 speed final drive
  • Had a truck without a Night heater
  • Been parked up in an RDC surrounded by Pink Chalk.
  • Drove a truck with a Gardner engine
  • own a pair of nasty Nylon Tartan shorts :sunglasses:
  • Own a pair of flipflops :sunglasses:
  • Have a wallet on a Truck chain :sunglasses:
  • Have a pair of cowhide covered clogs :sunglasses:
  • etc etc
  • Must have done rope and sheet

Never done it, would like to learn but it seems its a dying art these days. I think I see about 1 rope and sheeted trailer on the road about once a week if that.

You’re right mate, there’s no need to learn

Back in prehistoric days (70’s ?) I slaved for Ralph Hilton of Charlton

Blimey fella - HTS,that takes me back :exclamation:

Used to see my old Dad in the distance on a m/way, he’d be going slow and sheet flapping away :exclamation: I’d tell him about the sheet but all I got was ‘it’s a fly - it’s supposed to flap’!

Did have a folded frozen sheet run over by a fool (ha!) of a flt driver once. Still don’t know how he done it - it was in the middle of the yard and about 3 foot high. Took us ages to get it out from under the truck :open_mouth:
