SV8 I was the founder but am retarded now after 45 years in charge from an O/D up but in the very capable hands of my two sons now but times have moved on at great speed with changes all the way, glad to be out of the day to day but still have a finger on the pulse so follow what’s going on, Buzzer.
Don’t be fooled by the fuel tank Mr.Buzzer - that one was made in Veurne, Belgium and fitted in the late 90’s. When the truck came from Gilders, it had the standard Scania tank, and IIRC, a tool box on the other side. I can’t tell you much else about the truck steviev8, other than it would have been well looked after by Gary Charlwood - his trucks were worked hard - (mostly pulling bulkers for Eric Mattheuws of Veurne), but well cared for. I know that it did crack a piston in around 92/3 ish, I seem to remember that when Charlwood’s mechanic ordered the new one, the motor turned out to be - in effect, an early 3 series. I think you need to check the DOT number - ie; DS 14 dot… the last of the 2 series were the same spec motor as early 3 series. Sorry thats a bit vague, someone else on here will be able to give you more info re the motor. I will send you a pm with some people who you can try to contact for more info on the truck - I’m jealous, what a project this could be. Good luck…
Thanks for that Mr mills . I remember loading salt in winsford with one of matheuews once and thinking his trailer was a walking floor then noticing the front ram I thought rather you than me very large box back in the 90’s as I only had a 55/harder . again any information is much appreciated as you being from Kent and me from little old ■■■■■■■ ,gods own county ,
If I’ve done it right there should be a picture of my F12 and Freuhauf bulker from 1988 I used to sub for Romac as owner driver. Reminiscing with Baz in the Anchor yesterday.

Hi all,On the left in Harrys yard pics there is a Scania which was probably one of mine
Anyone know anything about it?
It is in the same colours like as this one
I think it may have been this one as we did get it painted, a LHD 141 EPU300T this is how I bought it off Tony (Hot to Trot) Bradfield, with the roof rack and steel sunvisor and TIR plate…
Regards Pat
Hi Pat.
I remember that Scania. The guy who owned it had 2. the one he drove was done up in Romac colours and his brother drove that one on a car licence. The owner died of a heart attack on a German autobahn or so I was told. I dragged yours back from northern Holland to Ostend with it’s trailer attached after it broke down.
If I remember right (not guaranteed, old age and senility and all that) Johnny Mac’s head fitter was a guy called Steve, last name escapes me, he went to work for Salvatori when they were based at Preston near Canterbury.
FYI Pat passed away several years ago…

Hi those Scanias were owned by my dad Mick King and my uncle Bob king drove it on a car licence. My dad also brought a brand new volvo in blue and white that he drove later before he died.
I worked for Romac after Allan Fisher closed. With the high turnover of drivers you only had to wait a few days before a job came up. They had stopped doing coal and potatoes by then, and I remember doing metal and then Italy with marble and stone slabs back. Wine as well, but most of the shippers would refuse to load the end dumps as the covers all leaked.
I finally got onto European Freight Services and walked off. Johhnie Mac refused to pay me wages as he claimed I failed to give notice, so I took him to small claims and won of course. He actually turned up at the hearing to contest it, and i asked him how many drivers he had fired on the spot. Hundreds was the answer, so instant win for me.
Michael White gave me my driving test at EFS, and explained that he had nothing to do with the company, just helping them out on a sunday. I remember Vic and alan in the office, Michael’s daughter Kimberley as well. Great company to work for, but finally my imigration papers came through
Has anybody got any pictures of romac transport of sandwich, kent??
I think they used to run f10/12 volvos on euro bulker work.
were they black with ared stripe■■?
I remember the company, did they run old MAN as well
someone on here - harry monk? - worked for them when they started driving iirc
I remember Romac, always thought the black and red and orange livery was very distinctive and striking.
Romac also used to do Airfreight to Belgium/Holland from a poky little warehouse in Crayford. I did a Schipol for them on the day that Holland won the European Cup, never have I seen so many breasts flashed from passing cars, they’re a liberal lot them dutch efficient too, as they still tipped & loaded me as soon as the game finished
Old Harry is always late, but better late than never!
The yard in Richborough on a Sunday afternoon, around 1988.
My rather underpowered F10 Globetrotter.
Tipping out a bucket on the Isle of Grain.
Johnny Mac’s son, Ian.
Heading home with potatoes in Holland
My occasional co-driver, Janie O’Donnell, at Cluses.
On the approach to Mont Blanc
The approach to the Cat’s Back, I don’t think this sign is there any more.
Does this qualify as a puncture or not■■?
One of the Barrio subbies, can’t remember his name…anyone got any idea?
It used to be said about Romac that we couldn’t run straight if we were on rails and I would say that was fair comment.
Dont know who the Barrio driver is, but could find out easy enough. I know alot of ex Barrio men so i reckon we,ll know pretty soon.
cracking pictures Harry. I used to bump into you chaps at Boulogne when catching the ferry, there was always one there waiting for a trailer to be sent over.

Mark, if you find him, he is welcome to copy the photo. Just can’t remember his name but he was a pretty sound fella.
Meanwhile, I’ve found a photo of some of the the Romac lads in the parking area at Dunkerque after a particularly heavy session on the Sally Line…
