I lived in Spain for 12 years and in France for the last 2 and in both those places the coffee is very nearly as good as it is in Italy, also I only drink espresso and am a self confessed coffee snob. I will happily drive 80 miles to go and buy my coffee and when in the UK I mostly make my own at home on a very good machine. If I have to buy coffee in a cafe I try for the best cafe I can find but as for the coffee in PSTT,

I wouldn’t boil pasta in it!

Hope my reply doesn’t offend but if it does I would refer you to my family motto

I also enjoy a quality coffee. But it’s not like the coffee at PSTT is that unpalatable :-/
