Interesting comments have cropped up but I still can’t grasp what some drivers actually put up with. I know the threat of dole etc but surely we can use vosa to our advantage in some situations…I don’t mean actually report but at least a threat of what would they do etc.
Maybe I’m just fortunate or too easy going I don’t know but every job I’ve had it’s always been by the book as far as I’m concerned.
Don’t know the boss so can’t comment on respect but while ever I’m paid etc and conditions continue I’ll show loyalty, and stick up for the company when situations arise - not that I get involved…I usually body swerve quite quite when I detect a moron
I used to absolutely LOVE working for TNT on the B&Q contract I would boast to people about the job I had and hoe great my employer was Wincanton took over and gave us a 30% payrise the job became even more fun and nothing was too much trouble I loved it the lorries the deliveries etc .
Then it moved to DHelL in Worksop and the arse fell out of the job the runs were pretty much the same, I had been drifving the lorries for 2 years then I had to do a course by DHelL on how to drive them get in them put the key in the ■■■■■■■ ignition how to do everything, every night when I came back to the depot I was remonded of my MPG before I left for home it was all about covering their arses and I did nothing but moan like ■■■■ about them.
DHelL told us that ypou could get 14 mpg out a 420 Volvo no matter what you were pulling behind it, they had driver league tables it becmae far too much of a competition and the paperwrok was a nightmare compared to what it had been in the past .
So yes I did complain about my employer but I was still doin the same job.
NOW! I work for Jewson if anyone asks me about the job I start at 07:30 and finish at 17:00 I see my kids every morning and every night its great, but I moan about the job when it comes to the people who pick the orders , the people who load the orders the other driver who says ILL NEVER GET BACK FROM THAT ONE but is back at 4 every night !!!
I never slag off my employer to other people though the jobs too easy.
As anyone who has read my posts will see I love my job, and work for a great employer. I always do my job to the best of my abilities and never take the ■■■■ or moan. In return they give me great work and leave me to my own devices. But thats as far as loyalty to any employer goes in my book. I know that should I make a major ■■■■ up I stand a good chance of being sacked. They probably know that if I was offered a much better job I’d leave, although I find it hard to believe there’s a better job out there for me let alone a much better one, and I’m certainly not looking.

That was the type of post I was expecting. I can’t believe the number of people who are not happy in their jobs, both on here and face to face.
You have to work for the luxuries in life and I for one couldn’t survive on the dole (don’t know how some get £25k plus ) but I’ve always worked and that was how i was taught. I wouldn’t put up with years of unhappy employment though, I’ve heard blokes whinge then say it’s always been the same and they have been there x number of years baffled am I.

I’m currently working for the best gaffer I’ve been with. He expects his pound of flesh and pay’s virtually ■■■■ all but this is the longest job I’ve had at 3 1/4 years and I’m happy as a sand boy !
I have to admit I am not likely to be as free with respect and loyalty in the future as I was in the past. Recent events have seen to that. I showed loyalty and was rewarded with a kick in the face and a big financial problem. (my wages are not being paid so I have to claim from the govt redundancy scheme )
Respect and loyalty will have to be earned from know on.
I think moaning is OK as long as it’s separated from your work. I had some employers I was moaning about, but my job was always done as good as i could.
Respect and loyalty doesn’t enter into the equation with me. I do a days work and expect a days wages. no different to expecting to get a tin of beans when you pay for a tin of beans in a shop. I never figure that either of us owe anything to the other and that every pay day we are back to square one where he owes me nothing and the same for me.
Yes, some employers are better than others, but most are there to make a profit out of your labour and are willing to invest in the equipment to make that happen.
I respect people for the fact that they talk straight to me more than any other reason.
After recent issues I have zero respect or loyalty for my current employer, and I am looking to get out.
In hindsight maybe I shouldnt have left the other place, ok so I had a few moralistic gripes and there were a few doubts knocking about that made me want out, I was just looking after number 1, but all in all the gaffer was a fairly fair bloke who paid us up on time.
I don’t think I’ve ever started at a bad firm, I’ve left a few though
In the past I worked at a small firm that ran a few crappy old motors, as time went on the motors got better & the firm got a lot bigger, I went from being part of the family to a number, all those years of loyalty, going above & beyond the call of duty got me sweet ■■■■ all, once bitten, twice shy as far as I’m concerned.
Having said that my current firm really looks after me well, I asked for a week off between tipping & reloading recently & there was no hesitation, anything (within reason) I want for my truck is no problem, any time off I want is no problem & if I want to turn around & go straight back out it’s the same, I’ve been there for 18 months now & can’t think of one time that I’ve been ■■■■■■ off with them, in my book that warrants some loyalty from me.
your elmployers are loyal to you as long as you work for them or they’ve got work for you
if something’s wrong you’re the first to be told goodbye
but some of drivers lick their bosses’ boots, do them favours and the employers smile to them and this means loyalty to them
sane people know it’s pathetic
