Refrigeration masterclasses

I must confess the last time I dipped into the coolbox things didn’t go well at all…

Do I store my eggs in the fridge or on the kitchen counter ?

You don’t store eggs in a fridge even though there is a compartment for them

You can do, it doesn’t harm them even if it isn’t strictly speaking necessary. The important thing with eggs is to be able to tell if they are edible before breaking the shell and this you do by placing them in a glass of water. If they sink they are edible, if they float they are not.

Basics of refrigeration.

If you compress gas at ambient temperature it gets hotter. If you then pass it through a long convoluted tube exposed to ambient temperature (like the black veiny thing on the back of your fridge at home) then it will return to ambient temperature but will still be compressed. If you then decompress it, it will then become lower than ambient temperature. It’s not rocket science.

Well it isn’t like that Harry, and it is very much a science. You may need to listen in to my masterclass and you will realise what you have said is totally wrong.

Really? So what does the compressor in a fridge compress then?

That’s a bit like saying that taking the theory E=MC2 to it’s logical conclusion lead or boron would make a good alternative nuclear fuel. :open_mouth:

IE it seems to miss the finer points of the need for a refrigerant to make the compression and expansion cycle, creating the net removal of heat required, work. While some refrigerants work better than others the best having been outlawed for ‘environmental’ reasons.

In the real world the whole thing being awkward, complicated, expensive to maintain witchcraft and at best employed on the basis of a necessary, disposable, liability evil,in the case of the kitchen fridge.Or at worse best avoided unless someone else is paying the maintenance bills in the case of vehicle air con. :smiling_imp:

Is that actually correct? I have not heard that one before.

Are you for real?

Dead serious, I have never heard of it before, you live and learn an all that. Oh and btw have I upset you in any way Harry? I honestly had no intention of doing that as of all the people I actually respect on here (not too many) you happen to be one of them I do respect!

Refrigerating eggs is an American thing, their eggs cannot be sold without being washed first thus removing the outer protective layer from the shell, this then makes it porous and why you must store US eggs in the fridge at both the store and at home, UK ones are not washed before sale thus retaining the protective layer and can therefore be stored at room temperature and you’ll also notice they aren’t chilled in the Supermarket.

I know [zb] all about refrigeration but my Grandad was a small hold chicken farmer.

Well this is all news to me as I know ■■■■ all about eggs

My knowledge doesn’t change anything though, the Wife still stores the [zb]ing things in the fridge, not convinced her to do otherwise in 16yrs so I don’t think I’ll convince her to change any time soon either :unamused:

My wife has always stored them in the fridge and she takes no notice of my advice either

I’d love to hear your lecture on fridges UKt, but I’m still busy constructing that candle out of my own earwax.
Only up to 2 and a half inches at the moment, but as soon as it’s complete I’ll enrol for the class .
If I find it interesting I may even gift it to you :sunglasses: …No don’t thank me, it will be a pleasure.

Rob get on the thread TNUK multiple accounts, thats the new masterclass

How do i get a fridge motor to run constantly?

ROADRANGER:
How do i get a fridge motor to run constantly?

by pass the thermostat, not something you would want to do as you will have no temp control and the compressor would have a shorter life span

I know what I need to know pulling reefers and that is where my interest in them ends, much like the majority will have little interest in how they work etc.

Absolutely fine, just what is your problem with anyone else being interested just because you are not? I don’t understand your logic, I am giving away free knowledge here that has taken me a lifetime of experience, not asking for money from you. I understand you may have no interest in knowledge but I am not forcing you to learn something new.

others on here could ask you the same question uktramp, why if you are so talented do you post on here looking for an argument,i imagine there won’t be a lot of drivers on here remotely interested in refrigeration so why try and start a pointless debate.

Or alternatively, just set the control panel to “constant”.

That was the answer i was seeking

You will notice that he has never written anything technically accurate about fridges, he was so competent as a fridge repair man that he became a driver…
Fridges are obviously not interesting …but why someone claims to know about them is bizarre.
