Red line suzie helper

I found them a pain too but doubt your Gruba pliers will help. I can understand using them to change a dipper arm or a four in one bucket on plant. I don’t think I have used CType couplings for 20 years

This is a problem I’ve not really encountered before, and I’ve been shunting trailers for a long time. Taps are unfortunately an MOT failure so not an option. Have you tried different makes of female C coupling as when the self sealing valves were first introduced they were as stiff as anything and I had a struggle fitting them.
Since then I’ve only fitted I.R. Self sealing couplings and not had any issues.

But to use them I’d have to have an ‘adaptor’ made up of 1 male coupling backed on to a female which I would put into the female coupling on the tractor unit before coupling up the lines?

The only problem with that is IF there was ever an issue surely I’d be for the high jump as I would be using kit not part of the rig I was driving?

Or have I got that wrong? I can’t change couplings on the unit/trailer, they’re not mine. I just drive 'em.

Palm couplings also have a male and a female connection…from the original airlines…so how can they be confused when connecting…and especially now we only have 2…and they are colour coded…only a true idiot would make a mistake… …to use palms the fleet would have to be converted, or ideal if only one unit/driver converts them.

Palm couplings, unlike the UK system do not have a male and female connection trucky. They can connect to either one. But in theory you shouldn’t get confused. Apart from being attached to the suzies the red and the yellow palms have a plastic cover to protect the washer, and should be connected to the palm connecter on the trailer with the same colour protector. On many occasions these plastic covers are missing and there is no real way of telling which is which, but I’ve always found here in France that the main red airline palm is on the same side as that of the unit and the yellow secondary palm likewise, so in theory, you shouldn’t get them mixed up.

Think he’s referring to palm adapters. We used to pick up some 4th world country trailers that had palms so carried converters.
Still have mine in the shed

We use palms over here in the colonies, the service line, which is blue here, has a little tab on it that won’t allow them to be switched and even if it does happen, worn tab etc, you won’t be going anywhere as the red supply line will just be applying the brakes if connected to the service line. They’re a PITA though, getting them to seal without an air leak can be a nightmare and if you don’t have a grip extension on them they are very easy to split the airline as you have to hold it to couple the palms together.

I’m not a fan of the self sealing C couplings though, taps were much easier and it wasn’t difficult to remember to turn them on or off, it was all part of the process of hooking up, which used to be a simple exercise before the HiViz gang started poking their nose in to stuff they know SFA about.

Sorry chaps…thats not what i meant…btw, i have used palms on many occasions in the past…and in the last 2 years…anyway…what i meant was Franglais said that they could be fitted/connected wrongly…what i meant to say or be understood was the fact we have two seperate airlines…a red and a yellow…so just put palms on the end of them…and also on the trailer obviously…i was thinking of the old boy who is having problems…so if he keeps the same trailer its not a problem…as he or the company can convert…but its gonna be expensive if every unit has to carry adaptors and its a big company…i`ll leave it there …sorry for the confusion.
