One of the things i hated most about agancy work, was going into so called blue chip cutsomers staffed by the most ignorant ill mannered ill tempered neanderthals that its been my misfortune to meet.
Exceptions of course and one or two places were fine.
Some of the posts above ring bells, how the hell do they expect an agency driver to know the ins and outs and idiosyncrasies they’ve built up over the years, do they explain properly? do they hell, they shout and ball and cuss and blind, some get in their little clicques behind the port hole and make silly remarks they can titter at like a bunch of adolescent schoolgirls.
Glad i’m out of it, those still doing the agency shuffle have my respect and sympathy.
There’s too many out there that can’t spell half of what you’ve written above, and the only shuffle going on is the five-knuckle kind.
My story -
Due to a change in circumstances last summer i signed up with one of the bigger agencies here in Northern Ireland . Had experience of another agency a few years ago and really wasn’t expecting much - I fully expected to sit at home for 3-4 weeks and then have to sign on for unemployment benefits.
Went to Belfast (40 miles -each way ) did the paperwork and had a chat with them . Was told to go to a client the next day for an assessment - went (40 miles -each way ) - passed and told to come back next day for induction training - went (40 miles -each way ) passed and the phone hasn’t stopped since . From last September to now I’ve been offered 3/4/5 shifts a week with plenty of notice (usually get a text on a Friday with shifts for the next week )
Supermarket work for one of the big 4 - good kit ,reasonable work , pleasant staff , office staff are friendly and switched on and no signs of any issues with the old own drivers v agency drivers nonsense. There are 2 lots of agency drivers and as far as I can see we all get along with each other .The truck I drove last night had less than 1000km on it at the start of the shift - so you cant say that agency drivers get the nails to drive .
Winseer:
“That seems very strange, can’t fault them, are you sure we are talking about the same agency? Which office do you live near Winseer, Ashford or Strood, ?”
They’ve got an office in Ashford, Strood, and Chatham a couple of hundred yards from my house.
I’ve already crypted up the name.
If it is the company I am talking about, they closed that office in the Luton part of Chatham ages ago, that’s when they moved to their new office in Strood, next to Swains yard.
My apologies. I’ve just had a look on GE and it seems the place I was talking of is now a kickboxing centre… Shows you how often I venture down that road…
My experience with them was only a year ago, but the image seems more up to date than that.
Being an agency drive myself i know how it feels
Having to deal with idiots in transport who think they know it all, given incorrect delivery addresses, unrealistic delivery time slots, constantly badgered on the fone, even asked to run bent on some occasions
When i signed up with my first agency i was offered 1 or 2 shifts a week which at the time suited me but after 2 weeks it went up to 5 shifts a week and that was 4 years ago and only “stood down” about 20 shifts in that time mainly due to weather, breakdowns etc oldest motor is a 59 plate, any problems with any unit or trailer and its fixed pronto or it does not go out, wages paid weekly only had 2 problems in that time and it was sorted the next week.I know from the posts on here and talking to drivers from other agencies that i seem to be one of the lucky ones but as i said this is the only agency ive worked for.
