Brother was sat in Aldi in North West…last week , waiting to tip, been there a good hr or so when he sees a guy in high vis walking towards his truck.

He winds his window down and asks how much longer b4 he gets on the bay… the guy replies back… I don’t work here, am Vosa… and starts lookin round his truck and askin questions…

This happened to anybody else when waiting to tip?

He would be waiting a long time then sitting in the cab to get tipped at Aldi.

He was waiting to get on a bay. You usually can’t start tipping at Aldi until you are on a bay, they don’t like it if you leave the stuff on the ground in the yard.

Thankyou.

Had something similar at B&Q Worksop a few weeks ago, got the heads up from security when booking in. They were out of sight but appeared when I had backed onto a bay and appeared when I was undoing the curtains, “morning driver, mind if I check your tacho and have a look around your wagon” crack on I said. 10 minutes later all done.

Probally checking the tacho is on other work as aldi lidil etc are self tip

If that was what they were after it was a bit pointless them checking him before he got on the bay then. :stuck_out_tongue:

Sorry meant about selby newcomers post but didn’t notice he was at B&Q

Do VOSA need the permission of the owners of the site your visiting (ie: B&Q, LIDL) to come on site and carry out their checks?

I had that twice before Xmas.
They check if Tacho is on Work when unloading

They have their own trucks so they are hardly going to refuse :bulb:

Yes they do need permission but as Santa says they are worried about the big brother mentality of the uk government of the last few years where things could be made awkward for them.
If you remember a few years back when there was talk of fuel protests it was leaked that protesters could have there O licence come under scrutiny and suddenly interest died off

I think they only need a Galaxy if they want to stop you on the road. But if you are already stopped eg in the Lidl queue, then as long as they have a warrant card or whatever, then it doesn’t matter what they drive. Thats my understanding of it, but i may be wrong.

Yes, they’ve always done this sort of thing, on only my second ever job as a driver I was stopped by the then Ministry of Transport while tipping at Shippham’s at Chichester.

I also remember this in Lincoln. I was delivering to a plumbers merchants and when I came out there were a couple of guys in a van. They had a couple of weigh pads and asked me to drive my TK Bedford onto them. I initially thought they were just doing a survey for Michelin Tyres who had a place on Tritton Road, until they explained they were trialling the mobile weight pads for the DOE / VOSA. They also had a quick look at my logbook but with parcels we never got anywhere near our driving time and always got an hour for lunch.

Not intended as a dig at a certain nationality but as a tramper i found this to be a more common occurence north of the border. Dont see the problem with it myself, if youre doing your job right and looking after your motor then there shouldnt be an issue
