On that note we obviously can’t get truck driver’s wages into line with train drivers
Only because truck drivers as a rule (like most workers) aren’t fighting for them, whereas fuel tanker drivers certainly get close.

Maybe train operators are protecting their investment in driver training? 200/300 hours practical alone for a trainee driver. £35k starting salary for 35hrs. And you get air horns as standard.
Was heading southbound on M1 at 4am a yesterday and noticed it was rather quiet Northbound. At around junction 27 noticed the police had stopped all 4 lanes holding traffic but appeared to be no reason for it on the northbound section. Got on at 28 but saw nothing.

They have been doing it for weeks, I did post a reason why they are doing it between 28 and 32 in an earlier post, they do it to protect the cone layers when they put them out at about 9pm and then again in the early hours when they are clearing them up because they have no other protection since the hard shoulder has been removed.
But I don’t know what Dr Beeching has to do with rolling road blocks.

The connection between miles of cones put out to cover yards of road works.Or sometimes rolling road blocks or ‘managed motorway’ type speed reductions etc for no reason actually being road rationing policy to protect the rail interests. In which the Beeching cuts were posted as a retaliatory comment.
Road rationing? whats that all about then, and where does this happen, is this a new thing? did I miss something over the last 13 months when all I was doing was a night trunk from York to Leicester?
Captain Caveman 76:
I’ve been stuck behind and seen on the opposite carriageway police enforced rolling roadblocks, both directions on the M1. They’re usually between j28 and 32 and happen at various times from early evening throughout the night. I can’t see any reason for them and just assumed they’re a police training exercise.
Can anyone on here shed any light on them?
Cheers
Cavey
isit not just the agency/Tesco drivers starting on nightshift for their mega trunk run??

See above comments.I think it goes along the lines of the rail interests in the government causing as much unnecessary aggravation as possible on the motorways to make the road option less attractive.
