Or try the supermarket agencies. Might not be cup of tea but you can earn decent brass & the work is a doss unless you get a metro in the middle of smoke.

I’d happily work for a Supermarket agency if it guaranteed work permanently. I’m extremely reluctant to give up a permanent and reliable income to gamble that a cut throat agency can keep me going regularly. I applied to The ADR network a few weeks ago. The advert said between £9-£16 per hour. I did a few sums and figured that I could manage my finances etc if I worked all the higher paying hours at that rate, lifeless for a few years but who am I to be picky? I went for my registration/assesment and was then shown the actual rates. £8 days, £9 nights. £11 Saturdays, £12 Sundays and £13.50 for Bank Holidays.

I have no experience of working for an agency but my gut instinct is that they are not entirely honest with their claims…

It takes the wind right out of your sails doesn’t it?

That’s exactly what happened to me… :frowning: :frowning: :frowning:

Agencies are full of BS but there are lads who do very well out of it, it’s just a tad hard to hit that stride I suppose.

As I say, I have no experience of them so have no B/S detector to let me know if they are truthful or charlatons.

I have looked at one called H&G Recruitment who are based in Warrington. Their website also claims that you can make more than £700 per week WITHOUT nights out. I’d leap on that if I knew they weren’t talking pish!

Beg pardon?

See what the doctor can do for the dust allergy, cos I think yer original, idea of doing another 3 years if possible at your firm …then getting out sounds better

PS…all agencies are charlatens…in fact they will thank you for saying something nice about them

I’ve been mate, I have sprays and tablets and all sorts. I can usually keep it under control but sometimes(and with no obvious trigger or warning) it flares up in a big way and completely poleaxes me.

I’ll probably do as you say though and just stick it out until i can sling my hook…unless something fantastic lands on my lap…because that’s very likely to happen…just after I win the Lottery.

Just to add a little salt to the mix, Bodens were advertising for drivers (think they’re in Tyldsley or Astley?) trampers and night drivers. Trampers were expected to be out all week. No idea what they pay or what the conditions are like, I know they operate some big wagons. The advert is a few months old but someone might find it of interest;

"HGV CLASS 1

Details: Tramping all week which requires the driver to have 4 nights out in the wagon per week. Mainly long distance driving. Required to operate walking floor trailers and chip liners, full training is given.

Skills Required: HGV Class 1 driving licence

Contact: Steve Laurie (Transport Manager)

Please email all CV’s to steve.laurie@bodensgroup.com or call 01942 882 667"

Not all. The agency lads who work at ours seem pretty happy on around £17 p/h.

£17 per hour every hour?
Any idea which agency that is?

Cheers Thunder367, and hard lines about the accident mate.

And thanks Tarrman but Bodens shift waste wood which is pretty similar to what I do now. Out of the frying pan etc…
