R.I.P. Peter Calderwood

Just heard that Peter Calderwod the owner of Promotor died a couple of years back.

He started out as an executive on the exhibitions side at Ford and then started his own company, Promotor Exhibitions on the back of work for Ford. Promotor Intl, the trucking division, grew out of Peter’s ambition to do everything in house and he was pretty ruthless in his business dealings as the company developed with loyal customers such as Bannon discovering he had taken over their work behind their backs. Perhaps all is fair in the business world!

Eventually he sold out his business interests which still involved Ford exhibition work to On Time and retired to Switzerland and latterly to Thailand where I understand he died of lung cancer unsurprisingly considering the amount of cigarettes he got through!

He was a major player in the 80’s and 90’s in the international exhibition and transport world and although socially a great guy to be with did not make many friends in the business world owing to his no holds barred attitude to his rivals and also to his staff.
