a mate of mine is restoring the 20,000th aki. when a see him i will get some pics, i no he has alot of pics off the trucks, but most are in black and white.

Good to hear that the Gold Knight has survived - I have a pic of the handover ceremony when it was delivered to Hanson. I’d no idea that it was still about.

The 10,000th Atki was supposed to have been put aside too, but I gather that it was cut. That one was supplied new to Suttons.

I think that Hansons may have had a driver training facility as when I worked for Tilcon a few of the drivers went to Hansons for Class 2 assesments, this would have been in the early '70’s. Of course it may have been a different Hanson…

Pete.

As far as I’m aware, this is the only “Skippy”-cabbed Atki ever to grace the U.K.

The cab was imported and mounted on a U.K. chassis, exhibited in the demonstration park at the 1968 Earl’s Court show,
and then sold to Hanson’s.

I remember two Snows road-ranger,M.J.Snow with red 8-legger tippers and R.Colin Snow with light blue? wagons running a lot of domestic coal. I used to see them regular in Manvers pit at Wath. Have they both finished now?
I recall that Hanson Atki as well but not sure about the engine make.

yeh thats right. i am trying to get a scanner and when i do i will put up the pic of the mick snow truck. my dad drove for Colin Snow for 12years running out of manvers. he used to deliver coal and coke to schools and hospitals in yorkshire. he started on a four wheeled bedford, and ended with a new 8 wheeled scammell routman. good old days of logbooks, no speed cameras and no brain left. sum days of 500plus miles, Good old days.

No mate,I worked for A.E.Evans Regent Transport out of their Sheffield depot. Your dad will remember the AEC 8-leggers and artics they ran I’m sure. I’ve done a bit out of Kilnhurst for YTD,creosote mostly for Boston and Norfolk area.

Just about to put this pic on the scrapbook thread but thought it would be better on here.

yeh he can remember them. i have got a copy of the snows truck on. its not very clear but you can see it. as regards to snows, mick snow finished in the late 1990’s, and collin stopped with the trucks in early 2000’s. he now runs a bar and bistro and stores caravans. i think the pic is a true “brit truck”, dont think you can beat how it looks, just needs a hummin ■■■■■■■ and a fuller box. hehe. which most would not agree with. OMG my eyes :open_mouth: :open_mouth: As you know I’m no fan of the Atki, but I do think they’re a nice thing to look at (not to drive) but this thing is bloody awful, not surprised it was the one & only, YUK :frowning:

I drove for Hanson from there Locksley Road depot in Brighouse. I think it was there that I saw the “skippy” cabbed Atki.As far as I can remember a lot of new Atkis passed through the Brighouse depot as the boddies were fitted at Reliance Garage just along the road.

I’ve just come across this thread and find it fascinating. I’ve allways wondered why Hanson’s had tipper bodies that curved down slightly at the back on their 60’s wagons, as I’ve never seen this design on any others. Can anyone tell me if there was a reason for it? I can remember seeing 8 wheelers from a firm called Mullan’s does anyone have a picture they can put on of their wagons, or tell me what their colours were as I can only remember the name, along with another Yorkshire firm I think, who ran a fleet of all black Atkinson’s called Slater’s running around the same time.

hi just wondering if anyone has a photo of a hansons mk2 atki 8 legger reg no AWU 122G my father drove that wagon after hansons sold it to ross roadways of ross on wye hope some one may remember the wagon cheers paul
