Question regarding agency "limpers"

Winseer:
The Swedish Derogation thing - I have hardly seen any evidence of it since 2014.

It’s commonplace in agencies, most of them are using it for their PAYE agency staff. They get you to sign a contract of employment and in it they state they’ll pay you a minimum number of hours if there’s a week with no work. At the agency I’m at its 10hrs a week.

My understanding…

Is (and I don’t know a great deal about this which I should cos I’m an agency man) that you can request equal pay. Obviously if the full timers are on less than you are, you don’t make the request.

In short, the agency can’t just drop your money if you earn less than the full timers where you are, they have to ask you if want parity or not.

Right?

Does that still exist? We had it around here at agencies for a while, but it soon disappeared when they couldn’t even come up with this “shift you’ve gotta do” every week.
When someone contracts to pay some hours “even if there’s no work” - then guess what? - It soon falls apart the moment “There’s no work, ongoingly” - like for tinpot agencies in January.

My last experiences in 2013-14 offering this basically called me up with a last-minute most awkward shift, which for me was “Can you get to Oxford street to run out of there in a C2 vehicle in 3 hours time tonight?”

Me: “Yep, OK”
…five minutes later…

“Sorry bud, that shift has been cancelled”.

I suspect that I was supposed to turn down this shift, at which point they let me go off the books, and got out of paying me the 10 hours…

Of course, I never heard from them again, AND I never got that 10 hours even for week one ANYWAY.

Bunch of crooks - this type of agency. They are like driveway builders: Promise you the Earth, con every driver in the country they can ONCE, and then move on “Plenty of other fish in the sea”.
Rinse and repeat.
It is about bloody time we were fully allowed to denounce the very worst outfits among them on here… BUT…
I’ll point out that it is often a local branch in a national agency chain that are upto these dodgy work practices, with their smarmy posh “recruitment consultants” offering most of the bum deals that turn out to be total cons…

Umbrella
“Salary Sacrifice”
Pretending it is PAYE when not paying your stamp or tax deducted to HMRC and then going ■■■■ up leaving you with a back tax bill
Booking you to fulfil their side of a contract, only to cancel you five minutes later if you accept, or sack you if you don’t…
Selling your personal details, in particular your phone number - to other interested parties who’ll then pester you with cold calls…
Telling you that you can claim stuff for tax, when HMRC then decide you cannot some weeks later…
