Put off by assesment drive

When you say it was ‘stressful’, perhaps you can think about what you actually mean.

Was it difficult, challenging and scary but fun? If so then persevere with it. However, if it was traumatic, a living nightmare, a hell that you don’t want to experience again, then as said above perhaps HGV driving is not for you.

I found my assessment scary but pleasurable in a traumatic kind of way. It sounds weird, and is difficult to explain, but it presented a challenge that I relished and I wanted to overcome it. Having got my Class 2 I went straight on to Class 1, then started driving professionally and found the first few months really traumatic and downright terrifying. However, throughout it all I could see the potential for lots of fun once I began to master the art, and several months later I’m still glad I did it. Big boys toys…

Try another school. Was the truck old? Was the instructor qualified? Consider an automatic - less stress.

A skilled instructor with a good vehicle should be able to sort out 99.9% of folks without undue difficulty. But if either of those factors is missing, it’s a different story.

I think its more down to the personality of the instructor rather than skills or qualifications

Hi guys, just want to thank everyone for their advice, I took another assessment drive with another company and chose them to do my lessons, passed my Class 2 this morning first time and really enjoy driving the truck. Thanks once again for everyone’s advice

how many hours did you need in the end ?

Good man Crewefan! Bet you’re glad you stuck with it. It can be scary but, by fik, is it worth it… like bungee jumping

I had 21 hours total although we finished early a few days and taking breaks out probably more like 18-19
