Problems With CB

I’m thinking of swapping the “standard” antennae for a stinger. My ant mount is on the rear of the cab wall, using what I’d call a pressure hose type connection. Would I need to change this connection to use a stinger?

If i can get to Pops Truckstop tomora im gona get another twig with a mag mount. What would be the best to get and the easiest to set up.(My head hurts    )

Just had a look on CDC Truck website, they sell a few twigs,Discovery,Modulator,Sirio,Stinger which would be the best to get

I’ve tried most of them in the last 32 years. The stinger is as good as anything and is durable and easy to fit,no SWR needed .

Thanks it looks like i will be getting one of them  Does it come with magmount or do you have to get that seperate

Mag is seperate.

Ken.

About £13 for the antenna, and it comes in an array of colours.

Ken.

I think they’re separate but might do you a deal? The best setup I ever had was a stinger/magmount setup. On the shovel I could get out several miles and hear people very cleatly when you’d think they were out of range. I didn’t know the stinger didn’t need SWR’ing, although when I tried I couldn’t make much difference.
I might do the old fashioned magmount in the roof and put coax through the door like we did in days of yore…

Ta peeps

I always thort CBs were simple to install and easy to use,WRONG :open_mouth:

Problem solved  ,i had twin whips in my cab so i screwed one of them to an old magmount and stuck it on the cab roof, and the bugger works  Happy days and 10,4 good buddy :sunglasses:

Just as an aside, the best thing I ever fitted to my CB was a hidden switch along the power supply so that I could turn it off to avoid the miserable, moaning people I was working with, and then claim it was broken!

Rodgey-dodge!

I drove someone elses’ wagon yesterday and they had a stinger which replaced the standard antennae; Made quite a difference regarding reception.

As far as I know the CB radio wave length is about 11 meters
so if you have 2 dipole aerials they will need to be 11 meters apart

Rubbish.

perhaps you would like to enlighten us with your pearls of wisdom

No problem. You want CB antennas at least 11 meters apart if you don’t want interaction between them. However in this case we did want interaction and a specific one because we wanted to co-phase the antennas which increases the overall gain over using a single antenna albeit that the gain is quite directional - if done on mirror arms it would be maximum 90 degrees left and right of direction of travel.

In the case of dipoles it is a similar thing. A simple 2 element Yagi is basically two dipoles placed approx 1/8th wavelengths apart in order to increase the gain of the antenna in a forward direction with one dipole acting as a reflector.

I know a lot about antennas. I build my own, I’ve got the certificate for working 100 countries, first in world in class in contests, first in England in the ARRL DX contest where everyone works the USA and I’ve talked to Falklands on 10m sat in my car outside the chipshop in Driffield - all done with 100W or less.

Excellent. Get someone to chuck a SWR meter on it to make sure the tuning is near enough so it won’t blow up the radio and job done.

I found I could hear people a good distance away today, but couldn’t be heard very well. Is it my setup or theirs?

Harrier CBX and a K40 for me, I can get out for a good few miles
I can also hear them ■■■■■■■■ russians or whoever they are all of the bloody time. :frowning:

Very tempted to buy a magmount and stinger and put coax through sunroof…
