Hi , I operate the goole lorry park and truckwash, I have a constant battle trying to keep our surface smooth and tidy.we alredy pay a vast amount of business rates for what is classed by the rating authority as ‘unsurfaced land’ they have also told us that if we hard surface the site our business rates will nearly double. So we try and make the best of what we have, last weekend I spent the best part of £1000 on a machine to level the site .Unfortunately the smoother my site is the faster some drivers tend to drive on it, this courses severe washout of the puddles.we have put up 10mph signs to try and slow some drivers down
but this does not seem to work either, it seems the only way to slow some drivers down is the uneven surface, its a catch 22 situation, but I will percivier with trying to keep it level,
It’s not just the speed that causes the pot holes it’s blokes screwing freighted trailers round. Think of the tyres! (& the concrete!)
Put a sign up saying, “no sharp turns please” or some such. Catch 22 though, some might read that & do it just to be ■■■■■■ make sure you put the please on & you may get somewhere.

If I was you i’d implement some traffic calming just after the entrance, maybe with some cones or whatever. Present drivers with a narrow space to drive through decorated with ‘SLOW’ signs and they will usually get the message and go slow.
I called into the red lion truck stop sat morning for the fry up. No room to park in the laybys so me and another fella had to go into the truck park. I’d say we near had our 45 min break before we got around to parking, pot holes that big we had to blow the horn before going into them in case someone was already in the hole or on their way out.now I keep my lorry spotless inside as I drive with no boots on.I can’t see myself or my mate stopping there again. Sure if the don’t want to tar these truck parks because of cost to do it and cost of rates they could buy a tractor and land leveler.that way someone could drive around the park everyday to keep the ground level.
