Police tactics on the M62 [Merged]

I agree tacho. I think, as someone said further up, this is a story for the drivers rest room.

tachograph:
I wouldn’t put it past the police to pull a stunt like this, but the problem I have with this story is the fact that the police in the tractor unit stopped the rigid themselves.

I was under the impression that the police used tractor units only to get video evidence and left unmarked police cars to pull drivers over and book/warn them.

You need ancillary equipment (blue lights) to stop a vehicle - you have to identify yourself as a police vehicle. A guy in a truck in a uniform does not on it’s own satisfy this requirement. If the rigid didn’t stop there would be nothing they could do save for calling up a marked car to do the stop.

This just stinks of RDC waiting room fantasy

As soon as the prat started slowing down my indicator would have gone up… Then I would have bollocked the coppers for purposely driving like prats and purposely blocking me in when I was trying to get out of the situation and for stopping me on the hard shoulder.
I would have then got my wallet and phone and walked across the fields to the nearest train station and gone home.
Dicks.

Isn’t that entrapment, I know that’s an American legal term and they aren’t allowed to do it over but can they do it here?

Very sad day if this is true, this type of thing really ■■■■■■ me off, would have served em right if he’d have run in to the back of them.

On further thought this has got to be BS, can’t believe the lads in blue would do something like this. I know they like a bit of mild baiting in the unmarked cars but this is just ridiculous.

Sorry, wouldn’t have stopped - a plain solo unit with a couple of blokes in it with “police uniforms” ? :unamused:

Could be anybody!

Gotta be a proper cop car with battenburg, light bars, blue lights and a big red lit up sign in the back saying stop.

Just done an ADR course which covered hijacking.

selby newcomer:
then a tractor unit is along side the rigid with a copper in the passenger seat videoing both the Mercedes and the rigid,

so where is the rigid driver supposed to go? car causing a 50MPH obstruction in front and a copper filming him from the side blocking his escape route. a new BS methinks

I’m sure we’d all like to think this story is made up nonsense, to any one with a sense of fair play it would seem so. But then, we all know that not every thing the police do in the UK follows our own sense of fair play and decency. A few years ago who’d have thought that the police would go to the effort of driving along roads in tractor units of their own to prosecute truck drivers who are doing something along the lines of eating a bar of chocolate or an apple etc. This does all seem far fetched but having witnessed how things have gone in the UK over the past 10 years with over zealous surveillance by camera, over zealous rules and regulations penalising the ordinary man for the slightest thing deemed to be against health and safety and all that, I’m not so sure this is that far fetched after all. It sounds ridiculous, but sadly I can believe that it did happen, or could happen in the UK.

Shoshaye:
Can we have a review on the camera? 15quid is very cheap but how good is it for that price.

I have used it for a couple of weeks now and it is smashing, good pic and good sound, and it shows the date and time.
You have to buy an SD card to go with it, that’s about £8, and it records onto the card in 2 minute segments, overwriting the beginning as it goes along.
I got a 16gb SD card, which holds about 4 hours of filming, you just pop the card out of the camera and into your comp and jobs a good un.
Only surprise I had is that when I ordered it, I got an email saying it was being shipped from Hong Kong, but it still arrived within 2 weeks, all in all a good piece of kit, and if it does go capput, at that price you aint lost much.

discoman:
you some kind of ■■■■■■? how was he tailgating the car he says plodding along normally in lane one, car doing 70 goes past comes in at 100 yards then slows to 50 so truck driver in 18 tonne truck reacts then he is tailgating.

the gap had closed to about a rigid length between the 2 vehicles

This is tailgating in my book. If you’d read the post properly you might have picked up on it. I won’t use the unpleasant term you chose. Richard Head is better!

I was under the impression that the police used tractor units only to get video evidence and left unmarked police cars to pull drivers over and book/warn them.

Apparently the unit wasn’t alongside straight away, they hung back to video the situation.

The copper filming indicated he wanted the rigid driver to stop, they showed him the video recording and explained their stance on it. That’s as much as I’ve been told about all this, I checked the rigid drivers time sheet for the day it happened, we have to answer on that if we have been stopped by police, yes/no, he has answered yes and given a short description of why.

This story has a very strong smell of BS.
Another story made up by a driver being on his own far to long !

I said something similar myself, it seems far fetched, and probably is. But the fella who told me don’t seem like a bull ■■■■■■■■ but I suppose anyone can make stuff up

Since the driver didn’t actually get done, even though he was verging on being to close to the vehicle in front, even though it did slow down, a proffesional driver would just slow down behind it at a safe distance, maybe they are after the nob drivers that would just carry on till they were 5 foot off the offending vehicle and try to bully the driver to speed up.
And I will bet that any one that is caught doing it would not have a leg to stand on with video evidence, and I bet they won’t come on here and admit they have been caught doing it either!

Lgv drivers response is amazing… Typifies so many accidents and deaths on motorways. A safe thing to do is to back away to a safe distance, this is not an opinion this is a fact. Instead of bleating about being a victim grow up and drive safely in your truck.
