brit pete:
here is a MAP

showing the diversion and THIS Will explain why all in english

Hi brit pete, Whilst what you’ve put is perfectly true and in good English…

I’m afraid I can’t see the relevance of it to the question.

If you take another look at the picture of the sign and the question asked by mad monk can you please explain how a Streckenempfehlung that’s clearly somewhere North of Bayreuth is explained in any way by your post?

You’ve got me stumped this time Pete. :frowning:

allikat:

dieseldave:

allikat:
  Sorry to appear to be picky, but there is a fairly significant difference in meaning between those two signs. :sunglasses:

Ta for that, I knew I was reasonably close with my guesstimate, Thanks for correcting me. My fault for posting it whilst my head is busy exploding with the flu…

Hi allikat, You were actually spot-on with the info, and you clearly knew it, so please don’t blame yourself or the 'flu.

It was a very easy mistake to make.

mad monk:
dieseldave i reckon that in view of your explanations on the sign and trailer i will turn a blind eye this once to the truck section  .

Thanks for that Mr Monk, Sir. :grimacing:

mad monk:
TBH i dont know where i took that picture so errr how do you know :open_mouth:

OK, let’s take another look at the picture…

mad monk:

OK, to follow my logic, please look at a map of Germany, and notice that the A9 runs from (the A10) near Berlin to München (Munich.)

At the top of the sign in your pic it says “München” and “9.” So far, that tells me that you’re facing South on the A9, so this has to be somewhere North of Munich, because the A9 terminates in Munich.

The sign shows that the recommended alternative route to Munich is via the A70, A73 and A3, so to give you the opportunity to follow that route and still be heading towards Munich, I deduced that you took the pic at a point somewhere North of Bayreuth. :grimacing:

dieseldave:

mad monk:
my question for this diary is what does this sign mean in germany

The orange part is sign #467 of the German Road Traffic Act and has the meaning that the route shown is ‘recommended.’
So in this case, I reckon you’re on the A9 heading South and there’s some problem, possibly a major roadworks, on the A9 so there’s a recommended route via the A70, A73 and A3 to put you back on the A9 for Munich.

A little detective work tells me that you were probably South of the A4 / A9 interchange (Hermsdorfer Kreuz,) but somewhere North of Bayreuth.
How did I do? and was it enough to avoid a detention for not knowing the ‘Eastern’ trucks? :grimacing:

cheers for that dave, very helpful

euromat:

Hi euromat, thanks for your comment.

IMHO, it was a good thing that the slight difference in the two types of ‘diversion’ signs has been highlighted and discussed, so I’m grateful to both mad monk and allikat for bringing up the topic. :grimacing:

BTW, I know you do Europe a lot, and I’m not sure whether you’ve read this, but…
:arrow_right: here’s one I wrote earlier.
I hope that’s of use to you too.

Hi Pete, Thanks for that.

As I said, it’s good info, now I’ll add: IMHO it’s that good that it’s worthy of a post in its own right. :grimacing:

:open_mouth: I still don’t see how it answered mad monk’s question, or what it has to do with a Streckenempfehlung:confused:
