There’s no speed cameras from the 40 zone villages on woodhead to the m67
Doubt overrun because of poor engine retarders would be a valid defence, brakes to slow gears to go is the new mantra which no doubt would soon be trotted out by the prosecution.

As an aside, if you do happen to be travelling downhill and you’re over=running and are using the exhaust brake to control the over-run but get caught by a camera, could you legitimately fight the ticket??
No mate, absolutely no chance and dont try as you’l get hammered by an even bigger fine and 6 points when you lose. As has been said, its an absolute offence, you either are speeding or your not.
Was it a gatso? These take 2 pictures, they then count the those dashes on the tarmac between the first and the second picture to calculate the speed you were travelling.

Has anyone ever been flashed by a Gatso when they were absolutely positive they were not speeding??I was travelling North on the A1 and got flashed by the last camera before the Edinburgh Bypass turn off last Saturday evening. My cruise control was set to 80 kph and I checked my speedo as I approached the camera and am sure it was bang on 50 mph but it still flashed. The driver who was following me was doing 53mph and wasn’t flashed.
Can anybody throw some light onto this?? and what to do IF a penalty drops on my doormat??

It’s the type of camera ,i have been flashed by the one at south charlton on the A1 which is rigged to detect lorry height and i drive a 7.5t at 12ft which is enough to trigger the camera over 40mph where i can do 50mph .The other one i have been flashed on is on the A 69 just before Haltwistle going west .That one flashes more than greasy uncle with a grey mac .You won’t get a ticket unless the manual check flags your reg as a vehicle that should be doing 40mph or 50mph

I’d be very surprised if a penalty dropped on your mat, after all no offence was comitted according to your post.I wouldn’t worry about it. I often see that one at Cockburnspath going off when no vehicle are near it. Rise of the machines maybe?
aye that camera flashes at you southbound as well,its done it for years,but dont be fooled into thinking it wont get you if your speeding because it will,it collared me a few years ago.( northbound )

That particular camera will indeed collar you if you happen to be speeding northbound, however if you’re speeding southbound it will flash but you’ll hear nothing as it’s a Gatso type device, so is only calibrated to read speed of traffic travelling away from it not towards it.
The internal radar will pick you up speeding towards it and set the flash off, but that’s it nothing else.
