I think everybody should make the effort to look smart, clean & tidy , afterall you are the customer face & ambassador for your company , if your dirty , smelly & scruffy people remember it & its a bit of self respect surely …

If that REALLY is you, I’ll reserve my comments so as not to upset you
no seriously you’re a fine figure of a man and not a sterotype Brit lorry driver at all…ok, I’m lying
it annoys me when i turn up on a sunday and office staff are in civvies. if you are at work you wear appropriate clothing to portray some kind of professionalism
i can maybe understand the big jackets but there is no excuse for having a filthy hiviz vest. it doesnt take much to chuck it in the washing machine with the rest of your work gear
shytalk:
Away all week i never shave, shower everynight if possible, allways carried a bowl for strip wash if cant get to a truck stop, clean short sleeved shirt for summer teeshirt and sweatshirt winter, i still dont like shaving one of lifes most boring jobs, if i can get away with it it mite be 2 weeks until the wife says…you look like a tramp, no exuse for not washing at all these days.
+1
OTS:
especially night drivers the prettiest of all
Are night drivers only allowed out at night because they look so bad.
Like the ugly fish that live deep underwater

‘…My wife … wants to know why 95% of drivers in UK registered trucks that she sees look rougher than a badgers a**e…’
One, or a combination of the following:
1 A figment of her imagination
2 UK workmen embracing ‘equal rights’
3 A fair & representative reflection of the UK’s diverse and ‘whats-the-point’ society
Caused by:
4 The UK thriving at the ultra-liberal ‘race-to-the-bottom’ as favoured by pro-EU Lib-Lab-Con MP’s in order to subordinate reluctant UK citizens who are (in the growing majority) disenfranchised & ripped-off individuals with knack-all to be particularly proud of any more
Only Happy Keith could blame badly dressed drivers on the EU. You blame them so much its actually hilarious. You make Farage look moderate.
switchlogic:
‘…Only Happy Keith could blame badly dressed drivers on the EU…’
I cheerfully suggest that someone who might be bothered could maybe have a little try and convincingly argue it otherwise to counter those with this reasoned view of the ‘obvious’.
Maybe be mindful that burying clever heads in 1930’s sand by convincing the spoon-fed masses that ‘it couldn’t possibly be’ and ‘peace in our time’ allied with fake ‘promises’ and well meant but false nuance & hope with fingers crossed was what appeased Hitler for so long
That way we can tease the argument open and be fair about it, because as some don’t know (?) and as already been introduced by the name Farage, he indicates that the single political issue of ‘EU intrusion’ (albeit dull) has negative effects impacting every facet of contemporary UK life*.*
Surely this includes whether one can be bothered engaging with their appearance at work anymore Unless it is suggested that the wife of the OP is a fusspot or that being scruffy & NFI* is chic
I love the banter on here, but who’d not deny that this industry in the UK is split apart with naff EU intrusion
Hence is our need to see the serious rotten wood (of DCPC; dangerous visitors running un-roadworthy wagons; depleted wages; running in KM’s; daft working diktats; scruffiness at work?) despite being hypnotised by pro-EU (aided by via comedic put-down) trees
*Not Flippin’ Interested
If that actually made any sense I’d have a go with a reply but alas its too much for my feeble brain.

Which bit is too complex
I wear a clean polo shirt everyday. Although in some lorry driving jobs its hard not to get dirty. I deliver milk and it can be messy and smelly. i wash my high viz every week or just get a new one but especially in the wet weather its filthy everyday so some cases you cant win no matter how hard you try

All of it. Your problem is you do yourself no favours. You probably have many reasoned intelligent opinions about the EU but you making an issue on every topic on which you post means you drown out your own opinions and no one listens. Often less is more. Blaming the EU for badly dressed drivers makes you look silly and gives people a reason to just write you off as a bit of a nut job, which I’ve no doubt you’re not really.

I can recommend an excellent German clothing company called Englebert Strauss for high quality and smart general work wear.
I f you get beyond the ludicrous male- model posturings within the catalogues they send.theres some seriously well priced and well made kit to be found, they seem like a company with their [zb] together in terms of prompt delivery and general all round efficency.Half the problem in blighty is the intrinsic lack of style on offer in most home grown companies,hi-viz coats of bland impractical design, abrasive shirts etc but E&S definitely raise the game for the beau brummels amongst us.Just aqquired a rather natty hi-viz gilet type affair,■■■■ fine piece of tailoring.
At the risk of upsetting our resident anti German friend, I have to fully endorse this. I almost exclusivly buy Englebert Strauss workwear as it is extremely well made, lasts a long time and can be laundered frequently without noticeable deterioration. They have a range of colours to suit almost anyone and most of it is available in Hi vis yellow or orange. I’m a service engineer not a truck driver but I drive a couple of hours to get to some service calls and find the ES clothing to be the most comfortable driving clothing I’ve ever bought. They have a UK operation although it is a German company. Incidently I also use Festool Systainer T lock boxes and power tools as these are the best I’ve found. German again as the Germans make quality kit rather than import cheap Chinese tat like we do. Sorry CF, if I could buy similar quality British made equivalents I would. Sadly I have to buy German exports if I want the best kit available.

Ok, before I start, it’s a genuine question and no offence is mean’t to anyone. My wife drives past a large industrial estate and DC to and from her work. As the roads are quite congested in rush hour, she has to spend some time sitting in traffic and watching various trucks go past.
She wants to know why 95% of drivers in UK registered trucks that she sees look rougher than a badgers a**e. Unshaven, hair (if they have any that is) that hasn’t seen a comb, grimy hi vi’s, wooley hats, roll ups hanging out of the window, and front teeth missing as they leer down at her from their cabs.
She wants to know why they don’t look like Mark Dixon off that Trucks &Trailers, or like the blonde, blue eyed, twenty something hunk that stepped down from his Dutch registered truck (Heuvel Trans) while she was filling up with petrol. She said the expert way he handled his large nozzle as he fuelled up was a sight to behold, and she said even the female cashiers were drooling when he came in to pay, and spoke politely in faultless english with a ■■■■ dutch accent.
So chaps, bearing in mind that image is how the general public perceive you as a professional driver,do you yourself prefer a well groomed image and try to keep yourself looking as good as your truck? Or do you prefer the Compo - Last of the Summer Wine look, and like to wear a wooley hat and that well worn out tee shirt under your hi vi, and are of the opinion that the world takes you for what you are and f**k what they think of your appearance?
What are your views? I’d particularly like to hear from Switchlogic as he always seems to appear tidy in his videos, with his shirts always neatly hung up in his cab. What’s your view Luke?
Right, time to take cover !
I’m always cleanshaven, showered and dressed smartly,I take pride in my own appearance and my company expects it.
I saw a CZ driver at Fleet today wearing furry clogs with cow hairs, i thought they went out of fashion in the 80`s, but apparently not, you can choose Friesian black and white or a Herford cow clog, kind of orange in it.
The only thing missing was a 6 foot long wallet chain attached to the weakest point on the trousers with two months worth of the gaffers running money in it.
Maybe i could import these furry cow clogs, will they catch on in England, you can imagine the belly laughs at the RDC.

Mine are on the loft somewhere, genuine 80s chique vintage, I bought the dark brown ones then to match my permed mullet (if I had the same standards today I would have to go for the human skin tone ones
) looked great with the 24inch flared Levis
, reckon I should dig em out and start wearing them again, if only to embarrass the kids
