Personal appearance while driving a truck

when I worked for parker building supplies I got a disiplinarary for not wearing my hivis whilst driving :unamused:

oldsid:
I sometimes never wash from going away till getting home. I find sleeping in my clothes saves using the night heater and I,m ready to go in two minutes. Any slight aroma given off by my personal aura ensures a good space to myself at most rdc,s. During the winter months I have been known to save on laundry and keep the same clothes for upto a month by adopting the same policy at home and sleeping in the spare bedroom with the window open and the heating off. I tend not to wear a hi viz as I can be detected by the smell from a considerable distance

that sounds exactly like a chap I used to work with  i always used to say to him you put the tramp into tramper

Tell your wive to stop staring at stobbie driver’s , theres plenty of us handsome devils driving other lorries, especially night drivers the prettiest of all

She wants to know why 95% of drivers in UK registered trucks that she sees look rougher than a badgers a**e. Unshaven, hair (if they have any that is) that hasn’t seen a comb, grimy hi vis, wooley hats, roll ups hanging out of the window, and front teeth missing. Right, time to take cover !

95% of drivers polled said the same thing about your wife. They’re employed to drive a lorry, not model the latest Tommy Hilfiger range. :unamused:

El Griffo:
If City Cat after five posts that is the best you can do please give up and grow up.

Hear hear old chap :grimacing:

or like the blonde, blue eyed, twenty something hunk that stepped down from his Dutch registered truck (Heuvel Trans) while she was filling up with petrol. She said the expert way he handled his large nozzle as he fuelled up was a sight to behold, and she said even the female cashiers were drooling when he came in to pay, and spoke politely in faultless english with a ■■■■ dutch accent.

What’s his reg? I’m gonna hunt him down!

citycat:
What are your views? I’d particularly like to hear from Switchlogic as he always seems to appear tidy in his videos, with his shirts always neatly hung up in his cab. What’s your view Luke?

My view, nice of you to ask! I’d say 95% is a bit high but I do agree overall in general. Drivers do themselves no favours. Being a professional isn’t just doing the test and getting your licence. If you want to see seen as professional act like one, in your manners, clothes, driving and everything else. I do take pride in my apparence but I always have, it’s just what I naturally do. It doesn’t cost much and I’m not saying everyone should dress like me, just be clean and tidy and well groomed. Uniforms when looked after can look very smart. Let’s face it I live full time in my lorry so if I can keep myself looking smart and tidy then anyone can. I’ll leave you with one thing, you’d be amazed how often people in customers offices, yards, etc say ‘oh, you look a bit too smart to be a lorry driver’! Honestly! And all I’m normally in is a polo shirt and dark jeans so that says something.

Ps, I’m very unshaven!

I don’t see why your contemplating this troll even has a wife, and really bringing up the stobart series that’s low! I think that says more about the OPs sad life than anything else!

Its always amazed me why people in suits think that in some strange way they are better than others

There’s no excuse for being dirty - but judging a person purely on the way they look is low

+1. To many many people have a core hidden by a totally different veneer.

personaly i like to look clean and smart while in work. i only shave twice a week but that doesnt mean im a grot! best thing about cab hopping is the end of the week all my bedding clothes even hi viz are washed and ironed ready for the next shift, boots are given a good brush polish at least twice a week. the cab is kept immaculate while im in it and before i leave it for the next driver its cleaned again. but thats how i like to do it, doesnt mean a grotty bugger is any worse a driver than me

He might be clad in G-stars finest Luke!

There is nothing worse than a driver trying to chat up a pretty girl in the goods in office at a RDC,they have no chance of pulling, but think they are the best thing out there and she will go weak at the knees at a 50 year old driver with earings, dirty jeans, dirty hi-viz, holes in work boots with shoe laces missing or the favourite fashion accesory of jogging trousers with the belly hanging out.
The thick glass windows at these places are there for a reason, with a small hole or intercom to speak in to and an inch gap to slide the CMR and notes under, is to protect the office bods from our bad breath and catching our germs and bugs.
It has been like this for years, i have shipped out with drivers going to Europe wearing only the clothes they are wearing as the boss told them it will be only a short trip, it would always turn out that this so called short trip would be 3 to 4 weeks away in the same boxer shorts or Y fronts that have been turned around multiple times in an effort to keep clean.
Then you would have to share a cabin with them on the ferry, some with 4 bunks in, snoring all night, or worried the wallet would go missing.
In the UK and Europe, it seems it is the wife that calls the shots on the lorry or business that is none of her business, they go mad if you are not home when you said you would be, one post on Trucknet mentions a driver delayed in RTC then getting a tyre blow out and the wife will go mad, so what, that is his job, and that is what goes with it, she will have to wait, you do not do the same to her in her line of work.

+2 And nowt wrong with a bit of dirt and smell of oil/BO

Personally, I’m always a bit suspicious of blokes that are too clean or well groomed.

Away all week i never shave, shower everynight if possible, allways carried a bowl for strip wash if cant get to a truck stop, clean short sleeved shirt for summer teeshirt and sweatshirt winter, i still dont like shaving one of lifes most boring jobs, if i can get away with it it mite be 2 weeks until the wife says…you look like a tramp, no exuse for not washing at all these days. :sunglasses:

Oooooh, Matron,

WTF ? If you think the post is wrong then don’t respond, you don’t have to be so insulting. Personally I think it is quite a good question as I hate to see scruffy, dirty slobs representing a company. My company only issue polo shirts and jackets for instance but even so when a yeehar slob arrives from another terminal (usually a southern state) with cut off shirt sleeves, a NASCAR cap, long hair and a beard that would put Seasick Steve to shame he gets a very cold greeting from the customers, they are considered ignorant and dirty. I have the opertunity in some cases to interview new applicants as a manager is a few hundred miles away 99% of the time. … Scruffy gits don’t get the job.

Do you not care what others think of you ? We have some drivers who come into our terminal unshaven and to me and others that means ‘Dirty slob’ we avoid them like the plague, I also hear comments from management about the appearence of such pigs, there is no excuse for tardiness, even if you can’t get to a shower or shaving facilities one day, at some point you will be in or near service area with hot water for a shave. I live in my truck Monday to Friday or longer, I have never gone more than 24 hours without shaving.

:open_mouth: If your type of work is dirty fair enough, but no excuse for the BO, I wouldn’t worry about the clean blokes, I reckon they won’t be in any hurry to come anywhere near you anyway
