Fantastic pictures Barry/Gloves, keep them coming please. The green Bison with the brick crane, Buxton 1986, was it Brian Brindley’s? I am sure the yard is David Bradshaw’s, behind the now demolished Duron factory.
I think that the Foden six wheeler of Mountains is the one that Spud Taylor later owned. It had the little ■■■■■■■ and small synchro gearbox fitted, the Tatmac Foden in the pic below it was forum member ARMSTRONG’s truck. Certainly a few memories there, especially 'Mad Dog’s Leylands before he moved over to Volvo.
If that Reiver came from Scraggy’s Larry it most likely worked from the quarries around Staffordshire such as Caulden Low, Wredon, Croxden Gravel etc.
Pete.

Many thanks as ever Barry. Love the shots from the Buxton area. The Reiver of Trevor Blounts was his pride and joy. Ex Tarmac and he looked after it rather well. That was until the cab mutt he always carried round with him was jumping round the cab and released the hand brake and caused it to smash into a wall and write off the cab. Not seen a pic of that lorry til today and remember it well from 1987.I’m so glad you took these photos!
You got any pics of Fodens or even Routemans from the Peak District area?
More from 1988 unless otherwise stated

Sorry , last photo in Middleton NOT Wirksworth
More again from 1988 unless dated
The Andrew Barker’s Cargo was one of the last built and was 26tonnes G.V.W.There were 6 left at Ford and we bought two,the other went to Robert Hadfield.I reckon we should have bought the lot, we would have sold them but my boss wouldn’t do it.I think Andrew lengthened some for the lads who’d got them.I know John Wayne had his done and Don Bur put him a bit in the middle of the body.I reckon the last of motors produced by any manufacturer are the best.

Even some khaki!!!
the rear axles were moved back 6 inch, and a different steering box was req, it was a farce as a few years later it was possible to uprate the cargo’s without doing owt
the only thing the body needed as I remember was the rear wing moving back a touch,
the l reg one in the pic had been 3 different colours at the time of this pic, it started off orange, then yellow and green and in this pic I had blasted and painted the body silver and the cab blue

The same with the Fodens Moose, that first one I drove (ex Smiths) had the bogie moved back by Gough’s in their garage at Lumsdale and it spoiled the lorry, plus there was very little body overhang and I struggled to get on some paving machines without spilling material. I think that the front spring spacers were altered as well. The second one was left as manufactured and was far better.

The Cargo was delivered in Blue as was Robert’s.I know it was the one I sold as it has the cheap T.C.H. triangle stick on licence holder

Looks like the back of Stephen Dale to the left and Steve Skinner on the right ?J.D.Wayne with the beard, Frank Goodwin at the back, Tommy Johnson in the body warmer & cap and believe it or not he still wears them same two items of clothing, cant just place the other bloke though. Come on windrush put us out of our misery,
I was talking to Mick Salt today & just happened to mention this picture, he said the reason he wasn’t on the picture was because he would have been in the offices at Ballidon at the time trying to get a rate increase, he & Tony Kent were the people who organised the protest.
I asked him why he wasn’t wasting every spare moment of his retirement on TNUK like a lot more of his cronies to which he replied he soon got bored of it, I told him Peter Barker spent every waking minute he had on here & his mood changed quick saying he would drop him a comment on here, so get ready Windrush.

[/quote]HaHa, water off of a Duck’s Back Robert! Saxa and me never fell out, one of the few hauliers who I would have worked for if need be. Glad the old lad is still around anyway and having a better ‘retirement’ than I am. Funny that I cannot remember that strike (if it was a strike) at all, Tilcon drivers had one in the late seventies/early eighties but I can’t recal another? I wonder if I was still Tilcon/STB employed then and not really directly affected by it, it certainly didn’t happen while I was driving for Eric unless it was when I was carting from another quarry which I often did?
Pete.

No not the same Salt family Barry, these are from Longford. Mick (owner who took over from his father Denis), Gavin (Micks Brother) and Arthur Salt who drove for them but was also not related to them. Great bunch of lads (they might just read this ) and had some good times running with them over 20 odd years.
Pete.
hiya…some good memories there… Sam Salt great bloke ive known him 30+years.

Well that is what I took off the plate under the n/s door at the time

Chris and Jim hearson both had them new at the same time . With the 10litre and alloys , and iirc alloy side raves on the trailers they were very light . The first crane lorries that could legally carry 24tons at 38ton gross . I think chris kept his going part time until 2or 3 years ago . Cheers , Dave
On youtube there’s some footage from Derbyshire Stone in Matlock search 'Foden dumpers at work '.
I’m a newcomer to this site.Iwas talking to Robert earlier this week and thought i’d have a look at it.Ifeel like i’ve entered a time warp some great pics and stories,Thanks Pete for your comment although i’m not very keen on the old lad bit, young man would sound better!Regards the driver dispute at Ballidon this was around 1989 and I got involved, aged me about 10 years. All for now love to hear from any old truckers.
