Peak District.

Hello chaps,
These photos are great, my dad used to drive for Calaghans, longson (for a short while), Somersets and finally Staveley Lime (peakstone/rmc/now Lhoist). I can’t find any pics of the Somersets trucks of any era. I have posted some of the peakstone pics elsewhere on here. Does anyone have any of the Somersets trucks as they ran ERF’s and fodens in the red and cream livery. They are still going today unlike longsons, can anyone assist?

One of the old firms that use to confuse me untill I found Heyworth’s owned the wagons and Beaman’s supplied the work.

re old albion on calver bridge , could be thomas wards of sheffield , they had a quarry up stoney middleton . they changed thier livery to yellow in the sixties they had a big fleet in and around sheffield

Hi rigsby.Do you have any photos from the sixties onwards that you can post on here for us.There is a thread on the photo forum about Staveley Limes/Biestys/Peakstone what bonkey put on + other threads what Tipit has put on over the past months re tippers around buxton & chapel

Hi rigsby.
Heres a couple of Barlow Hodgkinsons Foden photos given to me by Flatman 001 who is a regular on this forum. He has some fantastic old photo’s
John.

You should remember this company.

rigsby:
did 16 years off & on for hazelcroft on fairfield common , had to give up cos of dicky ticker .

You’ll remember that prison at Lancaster we used to run to with blocks from Forticrete then rigsby. Two a day, and it was often over the top of your boots with mud.

I wondered if it was one of T W Wards Albions.I know that Wards owned Eldon Hill Quarry but where was their quarry at Stoney Middleton? I remember Darlton Quarries which went to Wimpey and Eyam Quarries plus Laportes all in that area.

Don’t forget the old Furness quarry, once owned by Ben Bennett then taken over by Derbyshire Stone before finally being closed by Tarmac.

Some more Barlow & Hodgkinson for rigsby + a Derbyshire Stone Albion i know they have been posted on here somewhere before by bonkey I think.(but nowt like a little reminising.)

John

As promised here are the shots of the Callaghans AEC that I mentioned the other week.
Publicity shots I reckon.

Plus seeing as there’s a few Allinson pics earlier in the thread, here’s a shot of the Foden breaker the company used.

Bonkey you are an absolute star mate, topman.Brilliant pics of Callaghans AECs just has I remember them during the late 60s/early 70s.Wait till TIPIT sees these.Once again brilliant mate. :stuck_out_tongue:  keep em coming.

They are really good photos BD and I think I read somewhere that the AECs were a cancelled order by Wimpeys? :sunglasses:

Cracking pic’s of Callaghan’s Bonkey, short wheelbase tippers. Don’t see any of those around anymore.
Cheers Dave.

Right, takes a deep breath, here we go with another batch of pics.

First lot are from Pete Davies taken at the Rising Sun Hazel Grove in the early 70s. A lot of these are from the Peaks, a few elsewhere. I thought I’d bunch them all here.

Brilliant pic’s Bonkey, pure nostalgia looking at those.
Cheers Dave.

Next up a couple of shots taken in Buxton, my hometown.

Onto a couple of Bulk Tippers’ Routemans.

Here’s a Foden ran by Marchingtons from Dove Holes.

Unsure who ran this Octopus but it has a Derbyshire reg plate.

Beesons from Hadfield breaker S80.

Now onto Sammy Longsons and Hansons. Must apologise for the picture quality of the Longson vehicles but better we have them in this state than not at all I’m sure you’ll agree.

Nothing wrong with the Sam Longson pic’s Bonkey.I had a better view of them on your pic’s than when they came flying by on the road.
Cheers Dave.
