PAUL GEE's PHOTO COLLECTION (Part 1)

Never owned one but a chap in our village had one when I was a nipper and always fancied having a go, Buzzer

I think they could be driven without a proper driving licence. Propelled by a stinky 2-stroke engine.

windrush:
Tilcon had some Scammell Sherpa dumpers, there was one based at one of the Potteries plants.

Pete.

Cheers Pete. Did you ever drive one ?

Probably the same as the 3 wheeler Reliants that you could drive on a motor bike license.

Hi Dean, no I never even saw a Scammell dumper but I know some Tilcon depots had some. The Reliants in your pic had a reverse gear so couldn’t be driven on a motorcycle license. Incidently Reliant built and installed the first all alluminium engines fitted in a British motor vehicle, just preceeding the Hillman Imp one.

Pete.

The Reliants could be driven on a motorbike license with a reverse gear although i think the law may have changed
in the early 80s. Someone i knew had them for years and only had a motorbike license, then in the early 80s passed
his car test.

Hi Dean, Thank you for the picture of The Railway Hotel at Branksome, Poole. I had an excellent meal and a couple of local
beers in there several times. My lorry would be parked in the rear yard of the retail park across the road. Throughout all of
my years on the road, I never spent a night out on any motorway services. I tried it one night on the first southbound services
at the top of the M74, for about 3 hours, the noise was dreadful. Night Trunk drivers heading south doing trailer changeovers,
giving no consideration for many drivers trying to sleep having completed 12 hours on the road. Despite being on my 11 hour
break, I set off about 10pm and headed down to Crawford village to where it was a pleasant place to eat, drink, and sleep.

Cheers, Ray Smyth.

Hi Dean
I think Morgan Antell may of come from Woodlands unless i imagined it!
I have an idea Rob Froud had an old Constructor of his which the ERF may of replaced

Hi Dean
I’m not sure if the Antells were related I guess they were somehow.
The Antells transported Dave Corbins frag plant down from Liverpool using the Atkinsons and a twin steer Scammell artic. We’re they called a trunker or handyman?
I remember a story about Dave Antell being stopped by the police in the rain and the officer asked Dave if he could get in the cab and Dave said no as he had enough s_it in there already

Is that the LAD cab? Interesting about the GRP insulation. Damned sure there was fa insulation in Dad’s AEC ergo.

Wonder if the batteries are under the seats as per the Albion CD21 with that cab ■■?

Hi Dean,
That Foden could be for Eaton Concrete based in Cheslyn Hay nr Cannock.
The right colour but can’t remember any sleeper cabs in their Foden fleet at that time.

I never knew they transported the Frag machine down from Liverpool. I am sure that Dave told me that cost 1 million pounds !
It was powered by a Locomotive engine and used to drink between 80 and 90 gallons of red diesel an hour !

The twin steer Scammell was the Trunker. That last bit made me laugh…

Dont think we have a pic of there Trunker, but heres a couple of there Atkinson’s.
