Buzzer, may be wrong but i think this F12 delivered to you last year ?

i think i saw that F12 running up the M6 near coventry last week

tony

Great to here shes still on the road, F12 what a motor.

Dorset:
Hi Dean
Glandels normally had a couple of artics and a rigid, they had a couple of factories in Scotland one being in Barlinnie jail in Glasgow so the artics would do one week in Scotland then the next local. They also had a factory at Frognall just outside Deeping St James. There is one picture of an early Daf coming away from the docks through Hamworthy (I wish I could search the pictures on here,I need lessons  )
That’s not the foden wrecker unfortunatly it was the actual Beacon Hill motor,I said it was red but thinking it may have been red and white :unamused:

Good stuff “Dorset” i never knew they had factories else where but to be fair i never had anything to do with them. They are still
going up the lane that use to go into Beacon Hill brick company.

Anyone know where the Kenmac Volvo is based ■■

Kenmac are from Flintshire

Thanks again, good stuff. Who do you drive for “pig pen” ?

Dorset:
Hi Dean
The foden is on 418 on trade plates but you will see the reg is the same.
The other Glandel Daf on 20
Eatons AEC on 423 with diamond Don driving, this one and HHA 414L ended up at Beacon Hill for pit wagons.
The orange TM on 262 was Saits of Ferndown,it had a multi lift system on it and I can remember it having the once over by Dave Corbin.
Another LCM Daf on 424

Some great info there Dorset.

Heres the Foden wrecker.

Glandel DAF,forgot about that one !

BL0030.JPG

Eatons AEC. My grandad never had a HGV license but use to drive the pit trucks about and lost the brakes in one of them and
ended up in the pond, not sure which truck it was.

So the Bedford was one of Saits i thought it was possibly one of Reliance scrap on the Nuffield at Poole so thats nice to know.
Nelson’s also had at least 1 artic on scrap as well. I take it Dave was not too impressed with the Bedford then, mind that 6
wheeler F88 was some motor.

LCM’s DAF.

kerbut:
Hedgemans yard was in Wool over the level crossing, turn left towards the Seven Stars and it’s where the car wash is, they also had a yard on Portland which is now Hump and Dump, the land is owned by Barry Crooke.

Thanks for the info Nigel i know where you are, probably not a big yard then as narrow there with the train line behind.

Dieselcowboy:
Anyone know where Edmonds Transport DAF 2800 is based ■■

A bit late replying! Edmonds were in Chickerell Road, by Charlestown Garage, Weymouth.

Better late than never “Dieselcowboy” Thanks for the info chap.

Dieselcowboy:
“kerbut” I used to work after leaving school for Universal Engineering in the old bus station in Charlestown opposite the garage in the early 60,s but cant remember Edmunds Tpt.I remember the Volvo, I think it was Red.
I think they packed up in the 80’s, big Daf users, red cabs, black chassis, they also had a Bedford TK rigid. They used to run flat trailers, the only name on the cabs was on the headboard. They had a yard next to the garage, which is now a Co-Op, the workshops were there for a long time after they packed up, there’s houses there now

Thanks for the comments chaps, surprised we have not had any more of them on here. Will check with Paul.

Yes I’m sure I’ve seen it every now and again on the M6, lovely motor, always brings back memories.

Tony - elsa Lad will do a bit on the F12 soon.

Dieselcowboy:
Thanks for the info on Hedgeman. He operated this Volvo N10 tipper which would have been pretty rare as you never saw many of the N series about. Dont know if it was just one or more.

They had the one. A good friend of mine used to drive for Hedgeman/Portland Plant and he said it used to take the fitter around 4hrs to lift the tipper body off and fit the 5th wheel, then it was ready to go to work as a tractor unit.

Thanks for the comments on the N10 Volvo. I bet the fitter did not look forward to doing that job !

Posted this F12 ages ago coming through Dorchester and wondered if it was one of Hedgeman’s as i think it says Wool
on the door. Assume it carried the traction engine “Princess Mary” ?

“Dorset-Steam” Any idea who operated this F7 seen here heading down Sterte road. No doubt working
on the Holes Bay road.

I reckon the blue X reg F7 belonged to Wool Transport which was something to do with D. J Hedgeman and Portland Plant Hire I believe■■?

“troberts0” Re the blue Volvo F7 that you thought was Wool transport, can confirm you were 100% correct, heres another pic
of the same truck.

New pic arrived yesterday which you can clearly see Wool on the door.

“moomooland” Paul had some new pics arrive and look what turned up.We have not had a Lowfield Foden before.

0[ Hello DEAN ,yes that is Trevor Morris from Oswestry ,he a couple of those Seddon Atkinsons with Rolls 320 engines ,thank you Trevor

Hi Dean, The Armada Tube trailer has a Launceston telephone code, 01566,
and the M.A.N. unit has a Truro registration plate WK. Cornish Pasties eh ?.

Cheers, Ray Smyth.

Hi Dean
The TM of Saits which I’m sure was brand new at the time was more demonstrating the multi lift skip system. I’m not sure what the first one was Dave had. He had a 6 wheel F86 ex Meon Valley Metals which is pictured somewhere on here STR 96N, the 6 wheel F88 MYG 216P a 1974 Super Mastiff can’t remember the reg,a 6 wheel Guy and 2 8 wheel F7s UKC 402 and 403V which are pictured also.
The 2800 I think came from Furnell,it either rolled or had a smack on the continent and Dave put it back on the road. I went with him in it to Wadebridge to take back the Iron Maiden showman’s engine which he had borrowed whilst he was converting a road loco into a showman’s,he was using it as a pattern. The engine on the back is the Fowler Candy Floss. Another bit of boring info there was a F88 which sold in the Derek Cooper auction which belonged to Dave VHO 103R which sold for about 43k and apparently only had around 60k on the clock,I know for a fact that whilst Dave had it it did Corfe Mullen to Sittingborne and back every day for about 3 years plus what it had done before he got it,think the cable must of been broken for a few years

Possibly a Silvertown based vehicle.

Yes Dave, Silvertown units pulled containers and Faversham units tended to pull boxes and fridges.

And yes Dean, I did drive Westermann’s drawbars for a while.

I think Wool Transport had two of those F7s, then again most of the memories are childhood ones so may be a bit sketchy.
I’ll attach a few old photos below starting with ARC, the old premix plant at Chickerell.

ARC premix at the construction of the Blandford bypass, presumably supplying from Todber plant
