PAUL GEE's PHOTO COLLECTION (Part 1)

Hi Dean. Ivor D Morgan were from Cardiff. Always seemed to run low powered vehicles. They had rigid tippers and tipping trailers with folding/drop sides to load as flatbeds. Mostly coal out of S.Wales and pit props back to the collieries.
He was a fan of the F86, and F7s.
A few pages back there is a photo of a 6x4 Foden with a walking floor trailer they manufactured. Ivor had the sole U.K. rights for the Keith (U.S.) walking floor system.
After the miners strike they packed it in, and as far as I know didn’t produce many trailers.
Ivor’s son ran a sister company for a while, but also packed it in.

Paul

Hi Dean,
Back in 2016 when new I would say £135K for the unit and £32K for the trailer, but now you could add at least £8 to £10K for the outfit.

In 2015 I was paying circa £3,000 for a new 35 cu yd hooklift bin and last week I was quoted £5,600 for the same, the skip manufacturer is paying £1,100 per ton of steel and those bins are 3,300 kgs a piece. I suppose that will be blamed on Brexit, IR35 and the Eastern European lads going home!! Cheer’s Pete

Can well believe it Pete, iirc I was buying an eight wheeler rolonoff for around £56,000 but that was many moons ago. I’m having work done on my house currently and phoned up for a 6yd skip, £230 couldn’t believe it! It’s probably why a lot of the trades are no longer taking rubbish away with them.

Correction here. Dean the Ivor Morgan Foden with his walking floor trailer is on the South Wales thread page 751. Perhaps someone knows more about the trailer manufacturing side.
Here in Florida light walking floor trailers are used for mulch and sawdust, heavier duty ones for everything going into landfill sites. They are used in small numbers compared to the U.K. and very basic as are all U.S. spec trailers.

Thanks for the comments Paul John. Sounds like he was a fan of the F86 & F7 for payload. With a light weight flat bed it was
possible to load nearly 25 tons on a F86 when the limit was 32 tons !!! Unbelievable payload.

Heres that clipping for Ivor Morgan.

Thanks for the prices Pete, very intresting mate, some serious wedge. When you think the steel is costing £3630.00 to build a
bin, then they are only charging £1970.00 to build it which seems cheap as its not exactly small.

They brought a landfill tax in i think a few years ago which pushed the prices up for skips. Thats why so many ■■■■■■■■■ keep fly

Good morning, re: HS Williams I believe that back in the day they operated from a yard which was situated in Whitchurch just past Truckers ( if it’s still called that ) heading towards Ross. The garage I believe was opposite the pub which is still there. After that the yard was on the old road and part of it could be seen on the right just before Truckers
Regards, Allan

Hi all,
Spoke with my old mate Paul East today,His dad drove for Ross Roadways for years,Apparently Ross bought H.S.Williams around 1982,kept two lorries and the work.Ran with two company names from then onwards…
Regards Andrew.

H S Williams’s yard was in ross on wye adjacent to where morrisons supermarket is now. the BRS yard was next door right where the supermarket is now.

Pete, Have a look at page 295 i popped alot on about the Octopus.

My uncle had an Octopus and use to carry spare injector pipes as they were prone to braking when the engine was working very hard
and he had to replace a fair few over the years. I remember him telling me a place where it happened several times was going up
Chiddeock, the steep hill at Bridport. Use to have to stop to engage crawler going up loaded !
