Froggy 55 wrote; I see on your brochure that the displacement of the FD6 is 4.8 litres with a bore of 92 mm. My data mentions 4.1 litres with 85.1 mm bore. So, my question is “was and when was the FD 6 rebored”? Thanks

The 4.1lt and 92mm bore data comes from the MkIII FD6 (around the 1950’s), the engine had gone through various uprating changes since its development at the end of WWII with both Turbo and Non Turbo offered, until what seems to be the final product the MkVII B 225bhp version as in the brochure above. The Two Stroke Foden engines don’t seem to have been an option once into the 70’s, maybe it had gone as far as it could or other engine options available made the Two Stroke less desirable. Franky.

Probably to do with the noise they made , I lived a street over from a stroker driver and could hear him climbing Axe Edge from our front door 3 miles away .

3 miles away !

What happened with SANMAR they seemed to be going great then just gone

As I recall, they went down owing plenty, but also had one or two legal issues

Atkinson brochure.

I find it unbelievable that the Omega was not a success and only a handful were made. Does anyone know if there are any records of an
exact number built. I read an article that Chris Gardner on here wrote and from memory i think it was about 5.

You would have thought that Atkinson would have sent one to the likes of Pickford’s and Wynns on demo ?

Will do a bit on the Omega soon.

Yes, I ran a fair few miles (and pints!) with Tony on North Africa work. He’d have been on Morocco work in that picture, as he has a Davies Turner garment trailer in tow.

Hi ianto ,was it Chetwynds that they hauled hides to Spain and Italy ? Their was a tannery towards Cardigan so i assume they hauled out of that as well
Thomas i remember also had a couple of Volvo F86s ,a very smart well turned out fleet , but succumbed to a plain livery when they finished ,regards Keith

Those animal hides must have been a horrible job as they stunk. Back in the 80’s i remember loads being sent out from an exporter in North Wales but
cant remember the name of the company. Must have been hard to try and wash the tilt trailers out when empty as the sides must have been covered
in bits of skin and skank. :frowning:

Cant say Chetwynds is ringing a bell Keith but you may be right. If it was them they certainly used to send alot of loads out for export.
