Hi all,
Great photos as always gentlemen. Those late 1960’s six wheel units were a popular choice with many welsh steel hauliers, then the threatened weight increase never happened and nobody bought them until 1983 when we leapt from 32 tonnes on four axles to 38 on five or six.I think the green on the early B.S.C. Fleet was carried over from the old Steel Company Of Wales fleet ?
Regards Andrew.

Absolutely brilliant, Dean and accomplice photographers! Job well done. You’ve brought the past back to life for us! Massive cheers! Robert  :sunglasses:

Smashing pics as ever Dean, please pass on my thanks to Paul.

The Tarmac Maggie (I’m sure) is ex Hoveringham and repainted after the takeover in 1981.
Looking forward to seeing others

Hey Dean and Paul ,you just spoil us Welsh lads ,the British Steel Atkinson Leader was based at the Orb steel plant in Newport ,the colours changed to blue after the steel industry was nationalised .
The Leaders followed on from 4X2 Atkinsons ,but my uncle can remember they had a ruck of Leyland Octopus

Dean the company R.S.Hill was from Cams Hall, Fareham they ran a small tidy fleet and Harvey may have even sold them that motor, also they had butchers shops IIRC, Buzzer

Hi Dean, As ever, I am grateful for the time and effort you put into this thread, and to
Paul and Mark for their supply of great pictures. I rather like the format of showing a
picture in both black & white and also in colour. I look forward to many more pictures.
Kind Regards, Ray.

Heading along King Street Castle Douglas in Scotland.

They also own lots of static caravan parks and think they did caravan haulage as well but someone will know, Buzzer

My short stint at Prince’s Commercials (Soton) Ltd (VOLVO dealer). I was asked to re design the livery for R.S. Hill’s new F10 (x2) purchases (Harvey HRS) to replace their F86’s. The one in the photo is a much later F12 version but the paint job remains.
R.S. Hill did caravan transport as Buzzer said. Butcher’s shop new on me but I did live in Fareham! They also did PMR radio sales and service (Broad Cut Ind.Est. Fareham) and have many farms centered around West Tisted Hants, a village which they own in entirety plus other farms (Cheesefoot Head, Winchester amongst others), hence the radio link for their farm equipment.
Two brothers were the owners but recently one passed away.
IIRC the 2 drivers of the F10’s were “The Welsh Dragon” and Alan Hall (now owner of Solutions Transport of Portsmouth) at the time.
Phew!
