Morning Dean,
I remember when Nick Hardiman set up on his own in Shaftesbury, sand and ballast, he had an ex demo EC10 tractor from me, nice chap.
Can not for the life of me remember the company just up the road from him ( A350 ) that his dad ran and where Nick started ■■? Harvey
Hi Dean,
The yellow and brown magirus has a south wales area registration code,(KG).Though tbh i wouldnt know anymore information, same goes for the Foden 8 wheeler of Thomas Bros. The maroon D.J.Thomas F86 was from west wales and the firm have featured on here previously. They ceased trading a few years ago. When i went to their yard near Aberaeron 20 odd years ago to deliver a brand new MAN i’d painted, there were still several 86’s at the back of the yard. Please keep em coming mate…
Regards Andrew.

Correction, Nick had an ex demo Euro Tech ( IVECO ) sorry about that, Harvey
looks like the same livery as a company that were based in Pontymister / Risca (south wales) in the late 70’s known as Alte Express, they later located in Pontypool , they ran a number of Mercedes Benz and Ford Transcontinental’s in this livery.

I was always a fan of the switch on the dash , the later models with the switch on the gearstick weren’t as crisp to use and were prone to the air pipes next to the exhaust manifold melting especially on steep hills on a hot day . I bet Pete would have some experience of that . Dave
Yes we did Dave, however we had it more on the S39’s when the asbestos sock on the downpipe burned away and then flakes of hot rust dropped onto the pipes. Usually when dragging loaded up Longcliffe!
As an amusing side tale, when I was still working in the garage I was driving up Longcliffe in a Sed Ak 400 with around 15 tonnes on it at about ten mph taking it home overnight as I had an early MOT at Derby next morning and an airpipe blew and stopped me dead! However the general manager had been on his way home in the company car and was tucked well under my back end waiting for a place to overtake, the truck stopped quicker than he did and a nice dent appeared in the bonnet! He was bright red in the face and all set to give me a rollocking until I explained what happened; “Well, at least the brakes should pass OK” was his only comment when he calmed down!
Pete.
In theory the switch on the stick should be right, but like yourself Dave I preferred the dash stick, once I got used to it. It was a bit odd mind.
