Hi Dean,The blue Big J belonged to a local haulier to meâŚW.Smith of Hanham,BristolâŚI also took a shot of it but mine was dreadful,Cheers Bubbs,
Thanks for the name Bubbs, nothing wrong with that photo as far as i am concerned. If it was not for people
like you and Paul and Mark we would not have anything to look at mate. Paul takes the micky out of some of
his own photos and i call them dodgy as 90% of his are on the move. I think people appreciate the fact that
they were taken on old cameras 30/40 years ago and some of the trucks are doing anywhere between 20 and
70mph !
Paul John:
Hi all. Dean and Paul, well done for reaching and now passing the 200 page mark. Sorry for being a little late to the party.
Back a few pages is a red ERF you asked about, I believe it was J.M.Watkins from Abergavenny. The Roadtrain of Lucas may of operated out of Girlingâs in Pontypool. Werenât they the same company at one time?
Back in 1984 Ware Transport (Birmingham) had a contract running out of Girlingâs Pontypool delivering their products to Fordâs at Langley, Dagenham, Basildon and South Ockedon. A night trunk would run out of Feltham with empty stillages about6.00pm and deliver Langley on the way back. The day shift 4.00 am would do the rest of the deliveries. I used to do the day run when its regular driver was off sick or on holiday. A nice 2800 Daf ran both trips. You could go through the City at that time, great at night but coming back was another story!
Dean, on the other side of the pond I saw a lot of those old cab-overâs in the late 80s and early 90s. They were antiquated to say the least. European motors were 10/15 years ahead of them in every aspect, thatâs including British built marques. Thanks for your hard work you put into this site.Regards Paul
Thanks for the comments Paul !
HRS:
Hello Dean, I should be sad, but had to laugh when I saw this picture, remember John quite well.
I can see him stood by the driver, looking at this motor, saying " I will pop another tank on it for you" dont worry, you will be back before dark. Harvey
Yes Harvey he is a character, only had dealingâs with him once and found him good as gold !

Hi Dean, The Scania is Surefreight from Newry in Co.Down, Northern Ireland, and a depot in Cardiff.
I think they also have a depot in Bradford.
The ferry âRiverdanceâ was on its way from Warrenpoint to Heysham â â , and it ran aground and fell on
its side, close to the shore between Cleveleys and Blackpool, during an extremely violent storm.
There were quite a few Surefrieght vehicles aboard on that dreadful journey. I donât know if they were
complete artics, or unaccompanied trailers, or both. The âRiverdanceâ was eventually cut up where it lay.
Regards, Ray.

It beached in January 2008 after it was âbroadsidedâ by a wave, causing the cargo to shift.
A few attempts were made to re-float it but it eventually fell on itâs side on the beach.
At the time my mate had a Gyroplane and flew over it taking these pictures on the 23rd of April long after the trailers and vehicles had been removed and shortly before it was broke up.
