PAUL GEE's PHOTO COLLECTION (Part 1)

windrush:
Thank’s for the pic of Slaters headquarters Dean, that was how I remember it and the buildings were still standing the last time I went past. They were in the Tilling group at that time obviously and had two training vehicles, a short wheelbase 1968 reg Foden tilt cab eight wheeled tipper and a similar tractor unit and trailer which had the bonnet cut away to make three seats in the cab. We had the rigid as there were no artics on our fleet at that time, the non-driver perched on the bonnet with a board across the dash to stop their feet hitting the windscreen and there was no power steering but an hydraulic throttle which lost pressure occasionally so had to be ‘pumped up’ during the day. The tractor unit and trailer were booked out all week for two local farm lads but neither of them turned up so it stood idle all week! We lodged at Mrs Mook’s guest house on Scarborough Road in Pickering, most of the occupants were working on the North York Moors Railway as that was nearing the end of its restoration. Pickering in the Winter of 1976 was an exciting place to be… :unamused: Pete.

Good memories Pete, thanks for posting. How the hell did you remember “Mrs Mook’s guest house” !

Ray Smyth:
Hi Dean, I have just noticed that today, March 6th, is the 11th anniversary of you joining TrucknetUK. Happy Anniversary, Ray. :sunglasses:

Cheers Ray, i would never have noticed that ! :unamused:

Still waiting for a Taylors of martley…oh no, here comes a rolling eyes emoji…[emoji57]
Given in my taylors days we used to do a lot of South Wales from Worcester I’m surprised there aren’t any given our prolific truck photographer took A LOT of photos around Ross on wye.

I expect one will turn up chap !

dieseldave:
To all the +1s and the rolly eye brigade, I’ve moved the ‘offending’ posts.

Rolly eyes and +1s aren’t very helpful because they don’t benefit anybody, so here’s some back at ya!! :unamused: :unamused:
That’s because I then had to move the quoted posts too. :frowning:

:bulb: If you’d have used the ‘report’ button, it would have got it dealt with far quicker.

For those interested, the heavy haulage posts have been moved to the… heavy haulage topic.

The others are in the topic called “Past Present and in Between in Pictures”

The posts will appear in time/date order within the topic that they’ve been moved to, so they won’t necessarily be just tacked on the end.

So i come back from having a few days away and see that posts and pics have been removed ■■? :open_mouth:

Why have Kempston’s pics been moved !!! :imp: Not happy about that !

I have always encouraged people to put there pics on here, and who ever complained about them should
stop looking at this thread if they dont like that . People need to remember that apart from being
intresting to other members Paul Gee loves to see other people photos and the articles etc !

Who actually complained ■■?

Hi Dean, Paul & Mark thought i give your great thread a kick start as things seem to have gone a bit pear shaped this last week. :frowning:

P1001842p.JPGThis ERF you pictured Paul was operated by a friend of mine Geoff Woodcock of Oldham.
Geoff has been in business for donkeys years for as long as i can remember the company was started in the 1920’s by his grandfather.

Pictured here in his old yard at Heyside Oldham a young Geoff Woodcock is about to set off with this load of Flax, a plant fibre which is a raw material used by the paper industry for the use of printed banknotes and also rolling paper for cigarettes and tea bags.
It was destined for the nearby Robert Fletcher paper mill at Greenfield in Saddleworth were they produced cigarette paper.

This Seddon Diesel 32/4 tractor unit Reg No NND 867H was the first brand new vehicle that Geoff Woodcock bought back in 1969.
Pictured here when new and fresh out of the paint shop it is seen here pulling out of Garden Street onto Bell Street Oldham after
collecting its first load which was a full load of brand new pallets from pallet manufactures ‘Factory Reconstruction’.

More pictures of Geoff Woodcocks old motors can be found in the Northwest Trucks collection on Flickr

Today Geoff runs around seven tractor units this and the pictures below were taken in his yard in June 2009.

I believe that Mr Llewellin, the MD of Econofreight, used to insist on the Big A being removed - presumably he let them take the publicity shot first!

Here’s a shot of another Econofreight Atki Chris, again with the Big A removed.

A few companies always removed the badges from the front of their lorries another that springs to mind was Bass Brewery below…
