Which one is you?
I’m taking the picture. IIRC the chap on the left was Paul Bowles driving for Matthews frigo, the chap in the middle was John Roberts (RIP) and the other one was Richard Hatton, old Middle-East hand, as was John. The picture was taken in Hungary in the ‘90s.
This looks like an early Boalloy LV cab on the ERF. Behind it I see a Hillman Imp, a Hillman Minx, an Austin A35, a Morris Minor and two Triumph Mayflowers. Behind them is what looks like a Burlingham bodied coach.
A ‘‘Mayflower Jeez that brings back memories.
My Uncle had one when I was a young kid, it was old then. In a light blue, luxurious inside like a poor man’s Roller.
How does one pick an A35 from an A30 van?
Renown?….They look at bit like a Mayflower as far as I remember them.
Another Triumph or an Aussie job….never heard of em tbh
Nope, the Renown was the bigger version of the Mayflower. They were made twixt c.1949 and 1953 IIRC. We had a 1953 one. It was already old-fashioned before it fell off the production line and was underpowered: it had the same Standard engine as the Vanguard. It also had column gearchange. It was the first car I ever drove, aged 12, across a field in Sussex.
I always went by the size of the rear window in the car, but with the van I’m not so sure.
@les_sylphides Likewise, from the front it was chtome verses painted grill. I assume the back of the vans were indistinguishable.
Simply A30 = 30hp
A35 = 35hp.
I think twenty-five of those horses had escaped from my A30, all those years ago.
The Malcolm Collection.
I would guess they were all Hungary at the time hence the stew ![]()
