I’m maybe way off as all this stuff is before my time.
I’m going Foden …only because it looked like a toy Foden truck I remember as a kid. :smiley:
Maybe with a different or modified grille?

Looks like a Bitsa on the other hand it may have been a prototype, the fuel tank wouldn’t have got it very far..

The grill resembles that of an S model.

I can see where you’re coming from, too.

It may have had another one on the other side, or across the chassis.

Ah! I didn’t know Vulcan was part of the Rootes Group. But I didn’t think Triumph was either…

The chassis doesn’t look beefy enough for a Foden FG (the model you’re thinking about) but yes, that did briefly occur to me too!

Since my last post I’ve done a bit googling and more googling and now quite convinced the chassis part is Bedford S type, and less seriously fairly standard cab tho’ not a triumph of design.

If it brings anything to the discussion reg no’s WKV479 and WKV499 were Bedford coaches registered in 1959. 479 was registered in the January and 499 March so it’s probable that these were dealer held registration blocks.

Look at Neville Cabs. A local firm had a semi normal control version on milk churn collection, Remember it losing a fan blade, straight up through the bonnet never to be found.

What’s with the ‘K’ 72 plate on the heavy haulage Atki?
That looks an older model than that to me.

Probably a special built, using basic parts. They probably just wanted function rather than style.

Quite often fitted to Foden heavies you could change the gearing on the axles 2 settings

These were good tools. I had a double-drive one like this for week on tilt traction years ago.

I drove the sister Transcon to this (OME 170R) occasionally - it had Cu 350 in it and went like stink.

And I see Tekno have just brought out an Astran model of Chris Hooper’s Transcon this week:

Those Fodens were a good truck.
They attracted the make to many firms who would not usually look at a Foden at the time, and were also popular with a lot of owner drivers…a good seller for them at the time.
Was it around 86 87 they first came out?

Early ‘80s I think. The one I drove (below) was on a B-plate.

Yeah nice looking truck…you could spec them with a CAT engine Ro as far as I remember…or is it all a dream? :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
