Past Present and in Between in Pictures (Part 2)

Discretion is our watchword

I miss the commentary from the likes of Benkku & co, but here’s a Sisu (Finnish for guts and determination). Odd–looking but I daresay very effective.

Always fancied owning and running a SISU just to see what they are about, no idea of cost etc Buzzer

I knew I’d read something about Sisu once having ideas of selling in the UK, and here it is in the CM archive

They did sell tugmasters here though, I recall Nexus Logistics running several on interal movements in Shotton steel works, 4x4 Volvo TD6 pulling sliding canopy coil carriers specially built by Don-Bur, with 20t Gigant axles I seem to remember 100t gross was possible.

Thought so.

Do you recognise this Buzzer.I think it’s from the Southampton area in a post with Cabmount motors

A Foden too

Ramone I do as worked for PBC aka public benefit coal company owned by Franky Allen which was sold to Cables Montague aka Cabmont on a dodgy set of accounts allegedly, then it went on to be British International, changed names every time they ran out of cash. When I drove a Mandator GOW 78L day cab in the early 70’s I thought it was great but learned soon there were better ways of earning a crust, think that Foden was a cut down tipper but thats how it was back then Buzzer.

I thought you may have known about them.Did you go over the water in the Mandator?

Just think of the envy that guy with the Leyland feels towards the bloke with the Transcon…especially if he does 4 nights out a week.:grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
Those Fords were second to none in those days in terms of living space.

That Leyand’s an AEC and they are both abroad .The AEC looks like day cab so envy isn’t close  . I remember years ago when i went with my dad every saturday to Ramsbottom in an old Mandator and S&W Cartons from Morley would fly past on the drag out of Brighouse on the M62 in his Transcontinental. 350 Cummins. Then there would be West Riding Sacks with F88s and then F10s and we’d only come from Bradford. So yeah what the hell would that poor bugger be thinking abroad in his Mandator

I knew Tim Allen from British International and his transport manager Peter Taplin who didn’t have telephone manners and attitude etiquette when speaking to the drivers.

Tim had an office in Porto and once sailed in his yacht to Matosinhos port to visit the office but the Bay of Biscay was pretty rough.

And the lady running the office there was Manuelá, Isabella and Anna.
