A bit more on the Bedford TK from Tyneside’s Grindon Fire Station pic. The Station is closed now and the crews absorbed into the new PFI stations that Tyne and Wear Fire Service moved into around the Sunderland area. I recall Grindon Station well, some of the old stations had real character and stories behind them but were passed their sell by date. The Service used a very mixed collection of vehicle makes over the years apart from the usual Dennis, AEC and Leyland makes there were Austin’s, Bedford’s, Commer’s, Dodge, ERF, Ford and Fordson, Landrover, Shelvoke and then Volvo right up to today, there were even three GMC 4x4 V8 rescue tenders bought in the late 80’s, quite a mixed bag for the Workshop staff to get to know. Franky.
Thanks once again , Tyneside , Robsons Leyland BR 1685 is a 1921 Sunderland Reg, Keep this stuff rolling, Regards Larry.

Who remembers a scene like this when dad came home from work every one sat down for tea together, no fast food back then as mother did all the cooking, if you did not like what was served up you sat there until you did like it, Buzzer
Man eight wheeler from Grady Hall. Originally from Burnopfield GH not only had tippers but ran a large fleet of these slurry tankers working virtually
24 / 7 leading colliery waste to several disposal points along the Durham coast.
In the seventies they bought the old Millbay depot (and name) at Birtley and were appointed MAN agents. They went out of business several years ago.
The main DAF dealer (Chatfield??) for the area now have the depot.
The original Millbay company were, I think, owned by Spillers and were effectively their transport arm.

I remember when me and a mate were about 12 or 13, we saw a rag & bone man trying to rip the lead/zinc sheeting off the bottom of a pre fab. We both shouted out and he legged it back to 'orse and cart and fled… at a fast limp. We just stood there and ■■■■■■ ourselves laughing at him trying to get the poor old nag going faster.

My Dad was mates with a totter (as he called them), Nat, when I was a youngster. One Saturday morning my Dad asked me to take an envelope over to his house in Plaistow. This would have been in about 1967. So I drove over to do so. Can you imagine my surprise when I arrived to find a very dapper Nat, nice shirt, slacks and a smart cravate (but still with (admittedly newish)dealer boots) hooking his speedboat on to the rear of his Mk 10 Jag! He was going waterskiing…
They didn´t do too badly totting apparently.
The white Volvo in the last picture will be Mackenzie from Scourie , I’ve seen that motor often up in Kinlochbervie when we’ve been up there , with either a low loader or a bulker . He has a little quarry by the road north out of Scourie . His mum lived overlooking the harbour at Lochinver , nattering to her in the pub a few years ago , her and her friend were a comedy double act . I think it will be his brother has the caravan site at scourie , miserable sod .
