Past Present and in Between in Pictures (Part 1)

From about 1995, and for the next 15 years, a large proportion of my regular work was to and from Scotland.
2 and 3 day journeys were the usual format, and on the way back South, The Crawford Arms Hotel, A74/M74,
was the preferred place to park overnight. In the early days, it cost £8.00 for a 3 course evening meal, and
that included the lorry park fee. Me and my drivers spent many overnights at Crawford, so I established an
account with John Smith, who was the owner/landlord. At the end of the month, John would send an invoice
to me via one of the drivers…and I would send him a cheque via the same method. Just leaving to head South
is K933 EFL, my 10ton GVW Leyland Daf 45, I believe it was an ex TI Russell Hobbs lorry. Regards, Ray Smyth.

Hi Steve. Where did you tip in Florida? Yes, when it rains heavy after a dry spell we get lots of accidents as the grease comes to the surface on the tarmac and becomes very slippery. We call it Florida ice, add with less than competent drivers who travel to fast and close for the conditions and lack of knowledge of ABS, fender benders galore.
Last week I had to slack off my trailer brakes on the right side as in the rain it was constantly locking up and sliding to the right. Its an old trailer with no ABS. Could catch you out pretty quick if someone pulled out in front of me and I had to hit the brakes hard. You have to respect the road conditions, as its a full time job watching for the idiots out there!

Hi Stevejones,
that is quite a distance. Not hanging about or not getting stuck in too many traffic jams!! Being weekended, how long do you have to stop for?
Cheers

The butchers van of Lance Corporal Jones from “Dads Army”. When Mrs Fox came to Jones`s shop
for her Sunday joint, and a quarter of corned beef, he never took any coupons from her “Ration Book”.
I believe he always give her a sausage or two…Don’t Panic. Regards, Ray Smyth.

“grumpy old man” There are loads of films like that chap on youtube and they cover all planes just like
that 747,A350,20,s B777 etc. When the wind is that bad it affects all planes.

However what a fantastic plane to fly in !
