Past Present and in Between in Pictures (Part 1)

Leyland600:
Does the Nissan 8 wheeler milk tanker and trailer belong to Fonterra and is that Mount Egmont Taranaki in the background. ?
Cheers Leyland 600

Just had a quick look through Trev Jones blog and the info is as follows:- the Nissan CG380 belongs to Kiwi Dairies, their plant is at Hawera in the Taranaki Region, Nth Island and is the largest in the Southern Hemisphere. The mountain is 2518 metres and is known as both Mt Egmont and Mt Taranaki.

Thanks for the info on Mout Egmont etc oilreader but I have visited the area and have friends who farm directly below the mountain and are customers of Hawera Dairy. Here are some photos I took in 2007 at the site.

I photographed the same lorry disembarking from the Westray to Kirkwall ferry Earl Sigurd at Kirkwall Pier in April this year.

Nice picture what really takes my interest is the “short” motor with the 1000kg bags, some weight on there, albeit probably legal and all about length and price for the ferry journey.

Delivery to Wickes, Inverness. got a nice thumbs up and toot from the driver as he was going.

The short body is a JACK-A-BOX it slips on over the fifth wheel manufactured in Ireland any I have seen before were tipper boxes but they are legal and I suppose makes better use of the unit plus on the ferry the shorter the cheaper. Eddie.

Hi Eddie, Ta for that info, the legal reference I was hinting at was the weight spread on the axle setup.

Quite right oilreader all about vehicle length and ferry tariff, its a case of “never mind the length, see the hight” !! Jim Holland the Stronsay based haulier has three of these DAF CF tractor units converted to operate as rigid tippers or flats alternatively as an artic tractor unit when the need arises. These units normally complete more sea miles per day than road miles delivering good on their home isle or other neighbouring isle travelling daily on the morning ferrys into Kirkwall sometimes delivering isle produced goods or livestock then loading supplies of all types for the North Isles of Stronsay, Eday, Sanday, Westray and returning on the afternoon ferry. He also has a very short Volvo FL 6 with container. As Eddie erfguy states they are made in Ireland. Regards Leyland 600

Hi mercman123, your appreciation along with others makes it all worthwhile  .
I also appreciate the supportive contributions other posters make , the more and varied the better. I have said before and now repeat, tho’ I started this thread it belongs to everyone who wants to post on it.
As I have previously mentioned, I wrote to and got permission from people with lorry photo collections to post them on trucknetuk they were so positive with their responses, some sending links to other collections they have on the net, the real thanks goes to them, I’m just the messenger.
