Hi Oily, the first lorry I drove in anger was a Guy Wolf ex Carlisle State Management brewery hauling letteces and celery to Newcastle Wholesale fruit and Vegetable Market in St Andrews St where the present Eldon Square shopping centre and bus station is situated.
Cheers, Leyland 600.
One of my favourite pictures. (Already shown on the “Robert Baillie” thread)
Looks like Guernsey Tomatoes,as far as the leading axle on the trailer,
and filled out at the rear, probably with Spanish Onions handballed on,
probably for Liverpool Fruit & Vegetable Market,at Edge Lane.
Regards, Ray Smyth. Ex Robert Baillie, Wigan Depot.
Thanks to rastone and Ray Smyth for the pics
a proper loaded load Ray, a skill long gone.
This for rastone, the yellow one looks very much ex Post Office Telephones with the two hatches, now windows, that is where the ladders were poked through and the occasional telegraph pole, tho’ the ones I remember were Morris Commercials.

Hi Oily,
You got me thinking now! Hodgetts yard was in Sharrocks St Wolverhampton and they finished late 80’s early 90’s,last motor I remember was a DAF 1700, think bought out by a firm Hingley Hastilow, Cheer’s Pete

Oily,
A faint memory this company,Hopcutts, cannot remember the Guy premises as St James’s square was nearly derelict when I was a nipper ready to be demolished to make way for the ring road, but they had another premises round the corner, see pics below out of Wolverhampton Trade directory,
This was the Wigan Depot of McMullan Transport of Ballymoney,Co.Antrim.
Their fleet of Volvo Globetrotters had personal number plates, e.g. J9 MMT.
Trucknet member Eddie Heaton will know this location very well.
Regards, Ray Smyth.
My Ford Transit Noddy Van, KU52 ZKZ, in McMullans Depot at Wigan 2009.
This van did 146,000 miles in 4 years, 2006-2010, Not bad for a Transit!!
Regards, Ray Smyth.
When you think about it this was probably the case with trucks as well back then, Buzzer.
BBC news tonight, What the hell is wrong with some of today’s road users, road rage at it’s worst , no reasoning with this lorry driver.

Spectacular stupidity.
Ah, INSTARMAC from just off of Tyburn Road are still in business then, I used to deliver tarmac to them from Ballidon for bagging. A nice early morning tip and be back at the quarry before 8.30am to get stuck into the days work proper.
Pete.
