Just waiting for the “Nairn Bros. Haulage” logo to be applied above the windscreen!
Hi ROF chatting to the driver of this outfit, a cousin of the Nairn twins, Angus and Bob, at that time 3 years ago Bob had emigrated to Australia.
Grossing just on 55ton, he said, the R730 easily capable.

Past Present etc the convenience thread thank you CWM (Laird pic) for restoring sanitary, I mean sanity, s**t can’t get away from it I started school 1939 aged 4(unofficially), my mother was the cook so I was strapped on the carrier of her Elswick for the mile trundle to school (rural Aberdeenshire) and sat with the other kids. This was my introduction to the school lavvies, they were the dry sit on a bench type(we had a flush at home) natures call was a bloody dreaded ordeal, sat on the draughty seat the business was supposed to hit a slope and slide into a pit, this did not happen and a pyramid built up very quickly, needing a dislodging poke with a stick. Now the pit was also the for tipping ash from the school fires, so with a wind in the wrong direction, funnelling around inside the pit and blowing up into the thunderbox, it was not a place to linger, not forgetting to avail oneself of the newsprint paper squares, through which a piece of string was pierced and hung on a nail. Before the good old days Larry, if your reading this, they happened a year or two after .

PS another couple of words from childhood were chanty and guzunder.
This brings mems from the past, My old Grandad allways refered to the old P/Pot as a Guzunder, & When he went down the yard to the old Netty he allways said he was away to feed the Pigeons for some unknown reason, But alas how things have changed, The village where I live we have some awfull people who think nothing of having a dump on the pavements anytime day or night ,Whats the world coming to I wonder, Give me the good old days anytime, Regards Larry.

Last words from me before reverting to lorry pics - my Nan (at the old farmhouse in which she was born) told me about trips down the garden, through the snow, with a lantern to the outside ‘nettie’ - kids today don’t know they’re born.
In the 70s at school, I just had to make do with Izal grease proof loo roll “NOW WASH YOUR HANDS PLEASE” (as this won’t have shifted anything from down south LOL)

Is it a silly question, but what was the purpose of the cab built on the front of the trailer? First thoughts were that it’s provided for the bloke riding shotgun.
