Today we have a couple of Caddy’s motors, I never knew he had a tin cab ERF Buzzer.Evening all, Buzzer, a very happy Birthday…gosh I wish I could go back to 65, …■■■■■■■ Bales of Hay no problem then…but it is now!!!
Russell and Gordons ERF had a "torrid " life…first she was LHD, then a bump…then she was RHD…Gordon was a winner…in that big shed at Morda, he held more spares for Atkinsons/ERF,(and later of course Volvo), than any Dealer could afford to carry! And he had the Brains to be able to use them to the most cost effective manner, and some really usefull lads to put things together.
Even the engineers from Rolls Royce at Shrewsbury used to come to ,“borrow” bits to try out when they were “redesigning” the Eagle Diesels for reliability, and to have a “chat” about what was really needed!!
Now that Volvo…and I stand to be corrected…but that really does not strike me as a “real” Cadwallader lorry. The only new F89 that Russell ever bought, he had from me…and the B thing burst into flames halfway up Red Hill on the A5…quite gave me a start it did…rapid exit onto the grass verge…until the smoke cleared…then back to Bentley Mill Lane, and rectify the fault with the Radio wiring…and a ,(very), rapid trip back to Oswestry…and an angry Russell, because she was due loaded somewhere else…but he never knew the drama, or the problems with her!
Russell liked his 88s yes, 89s no, but that looks to me like a “fake” 89…but of course Im old, and a long time out of the job…
And I`ve combine cutters to work on…
So cheerio from me…somewhere I`ve a great picture of Russell, Gordon and me in front of that 89, (so nearly a Barbecue item)…boy if Russell had really known…
The tricks and strokes “dodgy” truck Salesmen got up to would make the hair of a “honest road haulier” stand on end if only they knew
It appears that the truth is finally seeping out(very slowly) after an acceptable passage of time.I wonder if Chris K. has ever considered writing a book of escapades of yesteryear (nothing to do with his legit business at Keltruck I would add !) Foreword by John —,alias “Saviem”.Available in all dodgy bookshops and Supermarkets for 50% discount, further discounts for quantity !
Cheers Bewick.
All 89s were left hookers That volvo is a mickey mouse 290 glued together in carlisle.
If you look at the thickness of the grill you will be able to tell.
As I recall the only right hand drive 89s were for the New Zealand mkt correct me if I’m wrong.
Never knew or met John Golding, but would loved to have had a chat with him, his buying policy was great, used to love seeing his amazing fleet . Regards Chris
I love this picture , to me it epitomizes everything about British Transport in the 50s-60s & what life was like for my Dad & all the other wagon drivers in those days! The fact the its not that clear makes it even better, to take a picture with whichever old camera was used & get so much character in it was a achievement in itself
Looks like the driver has parked up & gone to a Café to warm himself up! Regards Chris
Working pics have more character I think!
Serious Exporting, looks like ex-Dutch F12 earning its crust in Peru
Tough looking MACK from Down-under!
Love the old Aussie pics keep them coming
A few more!
Lovely sunny day for work
Old 88 lines up with the KWs.
Some of these Self-catering hol’s are going a bit far…!
A few from Silverstone the other week, had to help my mate hook a van on as he had got lost in there lol

Wonder who this old Borderer belonged to before? With the sleeper & the long range tank she looks ready to Tramp’
I’ve a feeling this still exists (though not restored), and was fitted with a 280 Rolls. The sleeper looks like the “official” Atkinson one, the ‘Nightingale’ built by Ellis & Son on behalf of Atkinson London
