Thanks to Lawrence Dunbar and Buzzer for the pics slight digression, but connected to transport, the price of fuel and in particular local to me in Dingwall, 132.9p. per litre, cheapest for a long time, plus in my case today with fuel saver points on club card grocery spend another 8p off making it 124.9p. per litre. Now I appreciate there are a few, (mebbe many) anti Tesco people out there, but hey is there cheaper diesel anywhere
The other argument is the supposed inferior quality of supermarket fuel compared to the big brand names. Going back over a number of years I’ve experimented with regard to mpg and to cut the waffle, I much prefer supermarket fuel prices and adding additive* at 5ml per litre.
*Reputable brand(5ltrs) bought on the internet

Greetings,All.Reference the old long nosed Dodge,it had a straight six cylinder petrol side valve engine.Quite a few were left in this country by the American Forces when they went home after the war.I remember that Birds Eye got hold of some and converted them to box vans for their deliveries. No fridges,of course. They were painted a maroon colour. Regards,900x20.
Just an old blue Foden today, Buzzer.
you keep coming up with some great old pics buzzer , memories of our youth perhaps ? i’ll have to ask mappo or charlie i’m sure they will know .
Just borrowed this one of our thread just to keep a modern note on things, cheers Buzzer.
Remember these little trucks, I had a bull nosed bigger version but with the thruppenny bit cab and used it on hay and straw carting, Buzzer.
Hi Oily, I had a friend from Nairn who drove a DAF 8 wheeler for P&J Grant for many years until retirement 3 years ago, sadly George passed away last Christmas. This may have been his old wagon.
Cheers, Leyland 600
Leyland600:
Most of the North of England and the South of Scotland’s goods were carried on Albion Chieftain FT37s like this one. I had one running to Selby BOCM mills everyday and loading 10 tons cattle / poultry feed back 270 miles return 14 gallons = 19.28mpg. 5 speed box 38 mph flat out. Diesel was 4s 6d a gallon and haulage rate of 30 shillings (£1-50) per ton. Those were the days 1962. Those Chieftains were hard reliable little wagons.
Cheers Leyland 600.
Hiya…Leyland 600… haven’t you overpriced the diesel price at 4s 6d i would have thought 1s 6d was more like.
i only paid 4s 9d for petrol in 1966 and i recall diesel been a lot cheaper in those days.
John
