Huddersfield Road Mirfield Yorkshire. maps.google.co.uk/ and type post code WF14 8AN. Notice the cars travelling are Austin 1100/1300s 1962 onwards. The Whittles Bread Van was based at Littleborough Lancashire with a pre 1963 reg. The bread van on the left body looks more modern 1965! I worked for Mothers Pride Bread at Old Trafford from 1962 van lad progressed to relief driver delivered to Huddersfield and Halifax areas NO Motorway. The first delivery was Motorman’s cafe at Marsden; vans were long nosed petrol Morris stub nosed Austin’s progressing to LD LGs then Ford custom Cabs. Mid 1960s permanent bread round was Peak district Derbyshire. Rude awakening I left the bread industry and started work for an Irish transport Company driving Ford D series and AEC Mandators. Job got more interesting when Volvo F88s and Scammell Crusaders arrived.

Kev it amazes me what members of these threads can come up with on the information stakes, well done that man.
Now here is another challenge and that is to find out where this was taken, it looks quite flat and its a DAF waggon and drag maybe CWM can help with this one, cheers Buzzer.

:open_mouth: Aaargh, the memories, download/file.php?id=108554
No power steering, bloody huge steering wheel and a ratchet parking brake that could kill if it trapped you.
But hell, they were happy days.

i’ll bet you went down into dewsbury in bottom gear as well brian . we had the "state of the art " fodens and if you didn’t keep the revs up the brake booster didn’t boost much . i’ve had a few squeaky bum moments down hills like that wondering if it would stop if the lights went red

Hi CWM when I was first driving HGV I did a weekly run to Norwich and as you know it is very flat land there so maybe it is around there. Now here is another cattle truck foe you to identify if you can, maybe some one called Penny does it ring any bells with you, cheers Buzzer.

Hi “Buzzer” ,
The Scania belongs to meat wholesalers John Penny & Sons , from Rawden , Leeds.
Along the sides of the livestock body are the words , " People in the know buy John Penny meats" .

And the next question is…

Cheers , cattle wagon man.

IN MINSK

Hi Guesty, This little Albion Chieftain fuel tanker with Holmalloy cab was new to Preston Farmers Ltd, eventually retired it served as a light aircraft refueller at Kirkbride Airfield, ■■■■■■■ and owned by the late Gordon Dixon farmer/haulier/ hotel proprietor (The White Heather Hotel) formerly the officers mess etc when Kirkbride was an operation RAF maintainance unit. Sold to Jeff Graham who ran Caldew Autolec the auto electrical company in Carlisle, Jeff still owns this lovely little wagon having nostalgic memories of his apprenticeship at Milburn Motors installing heaters etc in numerous Albions in the late 1950s early 60s.
Cheers, Leyland 600

Here is one for Leyland 600 nice looking rigid, cheers Buzzer.

Surely it’s an Octopus?

Is that a Royal Blue behind it?

Of course its an Octopus Leyland 8 wheelers were all Octopus,s Plus one of the all time greats of the British made motors Im very proud to say, Regards Larry.

Oh, good grief, Larry. One of my former employers used to run Octopusses (Octopii?) with trailers right up until the early sixties. Bl**dy h*ll they were awfull! Slow, underpowered, cold, noisy, uncomfortable. Then he had the brilliant idea of cutting them down into artic units. It made them even more uncomfortable but they still just about made 40mph on a good day. I had one for three days, when I threatened to walk unless I got something more modern. No doubt when they were designed they were cutting edge equipment but by the time I got mine they were on their last legs and just about ready for the preservationist or the scrap merchant.
But, as you will know, they served the nation well in their day.

And if anyone’s daft enough to want to restore a Leyland 600-engined lorry, there’s a twin steer (chopped) Bristol on Ebay for £1,000.
