Hi Oily, there was a brick works at Cadder way back in 1964., I recall loading out of there for Bury St Edmunds that year about the beginning of March, very cold as I remember. I then loaded Suffolk Punch lawnmowers out of Ransomes Sims and Jeffries at Ipswich several drops for Yorhshire and ■■■■■■■■

Hi Leyland600, Working for W Alexander & Sons, Grangemouth, late 50s some of our early(very) shifts was getting workers from villages between Falkirk and Avonbridge to the brickworks at Avonbrig and there was also a brickworks at Armadale, I ramble so here’s another Comet load of bricks which originally would have been Bedfordshire clay or maybe from Calvert.

I think that Artillery piece is a “Long Tom”.

harry:
Ford Canada made an identical one with the Ford Pilot engine. I think it was a V8 petrol.

classicman:
Is that not a Chevrolet badge on the grille?

harry:
Looks like a WW2 Canadian Chevrolet . 15cwt pickup?

Oily, I took this shot at the Trans-Pennine run many years ago. The picture doesn’t do justice to what is a massive outfit. The Mack prime mover is towing a wartime 5.5 howitzer (i’m sure someone will correct me if i’m wrong   ) The restoration was done by Geoff Maskell from Seaham. The Mack had been a snowplough in your neck of the woods after its military service. The guys who drove those ploughs deserve a gong as big as a dustbin lid, canvas sides, primitive heaters, and very restricted forward vision, although I dont think they would worry too much about what they encountered traffic wise in a blizzard. Ah but, from here it gets more complicated:-
The regular Ford V8 on both sides of the Atlantic was the 221 CID-3.62 Litre 85 BHP engine, but a British Ford motorcar had the smaller Ford 136 CID-2227 CC 60 BHP engine:This was the:-

A lot of detail there VALKYRIE, I remember the civvy V8 Pilots, a farmer local to us had one, they had quite a bit of zip about them compared to what else was around at that time in the family saloon catergory, thirsty (petrol then at about one and fourpence a gallon).
