This was probably taken sometime in the early nineties as I remember Ian doing Middle East in the late eighties.
I used to work with Ian’s dad Wilf, he was one of the old school lorry drivers.

Lawrence Dunbar:

Hi Larry, I was a member of the club in the '50s, unfortunately any correspondence I had is long gone, my badge from 1953ish which last year I gave to a good friend on the Isle of Lewis for his collection of transport memorabilia.

IIRC Graham Cordiner was a somewhat flamboyant individual his regular traffic south was from Crosse & Blackwell ( a Nestle company) Peterhead or another job he did was ( IIRC) Granite from Aberdeen possibly headstones ! Cheers Bewick.

The Henderson 6 wheel Seddon is interesting although before my time as we were pals with Hendersons mainly during the 70’s . Bob Henderson was a real character he used to get around all over in usually a new Humber Sceptre he regularly called on us in Milnthorpe in the day always lunch time and fish & chips. Hendersons were from Alston and were Rootes Group dealers hence the Sceptre but their haulage operation was run from Langwathby just outside Penrith. The Haulage side was run by Bob’s Son Tony and they ran mainly up and down to Scotland on similar traffic to Curly Cargill although they did run some special Combined Harvester carrying trailers out of Massey Ferguson at Kilmarnock as well as Coilers and PSK’s. Very decent people to deal with particularly Tony, Bob had another Son called Malcolm who was a Bobby in Kendal for many years.
This a shot of a Hendy subbed load we did from MF Kilmarnock which IIRC went down into E. Anglia somewhere !

Graham Cordiner’s main work as you say was out of Crosse and Blackwell Peterhead canned beans, sausages, pickles etc, Nestle the parent company closed the Peterhead factory late 1998, 170 out of work and a big blow to the local community . In the early 2000s I read that Graham Cordiner left haulage and along with a partner started a tyre fitting business namely Mac Tyres this was in Aberdeen. The Scanias got a lot of publicity, always well turn out and with a few in cab extras for comfort.

Shades of Cannonball, anyone old enough to remember that tv series? Can’t remember the actors’ names but the driver’s mate lodged with him and his wife.

Some of the words and the tune of Cannonball have come to mind.

" The rumble of the diesel…The shifting of the gears…The rhythm when its rolling…Its music to my ears… Cannonbaaaaaallll "

I will probably remember the names of the actors and the characters soon.

Cheers, Ray Smyth.

I’m trying to remember them as well. Ain’t old age great!
