That shot brings back a long gone memory " when I were a lad" in Kendal circa 61/62 and it was one of Burnholme Transport’s from Penrith 's Invincibles which came to a stop in Longpool opposite the Station with it’s very high load leaning on a lamp post ! The old Bill turned up and told the driver that if one bit of the load touched the ground he would be “booked” . The incident went on for a few hours ( I’d been home for me tea and rushed back to see what was happening !) well another empty artic turned up from Penrith and was pulled alongside and the load was handballed across without any of it touching the ground ! can’t recall what the load was but I remember that a Copper stood by all the time !! Happy days !

Eng.Scammell Explorer. No details i’m afraid.
Just after my 17th birthday, I joined the Territorial Army ( TA ). Shortly after, I passed my driving test on an Army vehicle.
I was in " Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers ", REME. One of our vehicles was a 6 x 6 Scammell recovery unit, identical
to this one, its Reg number was 92 BD 80. From memory, its engine was a 6 cylinder Meadows petrol engine. The gearbox
was a straight 6 constant mesh box. On the road, its mpg was 4 miles to the gallon, off the road it was much less.

Hi Oily yes I will be watching this program my first winter on the road. Stainmoor blocked for 8 weeks a regular run over and back each day for me at the time with a LAD cabbed Leyland Comet. Did you see “Rigs at Nigg” on BBC Four on Tuesday night I watched it on I player later an excellent documentary with lots of old wagons, plant and buses. Newton of Dingwall shown quite a bit. No H& S in those days during the construction of the first platform.
Cheers, Leyland 600.
