I have had the “pleasure” of driving this Lorry

Was bought by Danbury Haulage 2 nd hand along with the sister motor f683 which had a tarmac body on it…

682 died an unfortunate death when a new driver managed to run it dry on water and then rather comically jacked the cab up while only releasing one side of the cab mounts,

Cab spilt in half hahahaha

Brian Clough Way? But isn’t that a Handyman PW?

I wonder if it is the showman who used to park at Stapleford, he did have at least one Highwayman.

Thats an interesting unit Buzzer its owner company Theiss brothers had ventured into the pastoral industry with the purchase of 2 stations Mt Hart and Ellendale in the West Kimberly and the truck an Autocar complete with 3 single deck dog trailers and all yellow livery was purchased for cartage of cattle across the top of Oz.
The truck had a regular driver and a young fella as an offsider learning the ropes. The young man an excellent operator came to work for us and he and I are still great mates.I have forwarded this picture on to him and am waiting a reply.
Also this truck would possibly have been running around in Spardos time with Buntines .
Cheers Dig

Good Morning Coomsey
You would need a good Banksman with signals on that crane as you would never hear him/her or LBGT but would you have had a LBGT in those days with it having a detroit 2 stroke in it .

Cheers

An interesting story Dig, but certainly I have never seen it, or even heard the name till the picture was published the other day.
Another interesting thing to me is your use of the word ‘offsider’ I seem to have used that term all of my life although it may date from my time in Oz. But it has always puzzled me, a word which describes a co-driver, trailer mate or helper, but always the bloke who sits in the passenger seat…that is, on the nearside, rather than the offside. :open_mouth:
And coincidentally, it was only last night that my wife and I had this very conversation, as I struggled to explain the term, which I had just used, to her.
Back to Thiess, I look forward to your mate’s comments on the company and his time with them.

Monday’s memories

The Volvo with a car resting on it’s ‘forehead’ reminds me of just such an incident in Sydney one day when a carrier blocked Pyrmont Bridge during the morning rush hour. A taxi driver then, I was fortunate enough to be able to do a ‘Uie’ and find another way round.

Mungaranie, almost midway along the (in)famous Birdsville track. Held to be the most deadly place in the country, though I am sure there were other likely candidates. The story told to me was of the family whose car broke down on the track and, in desperation, set out to walk out of the desert for help. Big mistake, the car was found before they were, still with enough water in the cooling system to have sustained life (especially sedentary ie not walking) life for some time and probably until the car was discovered. But they all perished. The story was told to me as a lesson in what to do and, more importantly, what not to do, in such a circumstance. Stay with the vehicle.

4 in hand or Chinese 6 ? Hope she’s got power steering ! NMP off FB
