Pickthalls Albion GRM 691 ULW 4ton - 10cwt First registered 03-11-47. The Foden FG3 Chassis No 38920 ULW 4ton - 9cwt First registered 27-04-49.
I remember both visiting Wigton mart in the early 1950s.
Cheers, Leyland 600.
Picked this morning on my usual French forum. Wasnât the Contractor rather a Scammell model?

Note the âdog boxâ sleeper.
An interesting look back PR, some of those loads in the first one look a bit dodgy. The wagon in the 2nd is an A-double, I donât think the âBâ concept was invented then.
Iâd have given good money for a âdog boxâ in the 60s, that bloke was lucky.
A-double it is, thanks.
âDodgy? Nah mate, just tighten er up a bit, youâll be rightâ

AFAIK the âScammellâ badge was ditched in Oz in the '70s and all models were badged âLeylandâ. Iâm no expert btw, if anyone knows better please correct me.

Donât you mean âsheâll be rightâ ?
When I wrote my first reply I said âThe Foden in the 2ndâŚâ and then looked at your script saying âTancredâs AECâ and thought youâd got that wrong, so I had another look and now I am not sure. The roo bars donât help with ID, are you sure it is an AEC? Iâll bow to your judgement if so.
Both marques were very big in The Territory back in the day.

I too thought it was a Foden; it was only when I looked at the comments on that video (references to AV690) that I wrote AEC. All this is way before my time, at nearly 62 Iâm a spry yoof

Very nice, Oily, I love the way he has greyed out the number plate but not the motto. Best one I ever saw on a truck was also Australian âThe Wombat, Eats, Roots and leavesâ.
Only really works if you know what a wombat is and its diet, and also what the word ârootâ means in Australian slang.
I believe it was stolen and modified by a lady author called Truss, no not that one. Lyn not Liz.

Indeed. âEats, shoots and leavesâ. An interesting book about lack of correct use of commas, apostrophes and grammar in general. A good amusing (really!) read if you wish to brush up on what you were taught at school.

But her âtheftâ of it is a world away from the Australian original, unless of course you equate âpunctuationâ with âpenetrationâ.
