A couple of oldies, not certain about the lorry but I think it is a Commer ?
My money says nobody can identify the car !! ■■

Not my photos.

Regards John.

The van is a 1938 Ford V8, registered in Salford in late '38. The car isn’t any make of American ‘production’ car, it looks to be something either from the Eastern Bloc or maybe home-built on a light truck chassis.

I’d agree with Ray for the Reo. The stretch “limo” well changed my mind about the London cab bits, so 1950s and reg looks UK but the fashion of that era women wore hats, the blokes with not a flat cap or ■■■ among them, a tricky one.

I’d agree with Ray for the Reo and the stretch “limo” from the windscreen back has a bit of 1960s London black cab about it.

Definitely a Ford model 85, built in their plants around the world (with minor trim differences for 1939) in weights from 1/2 ton upwards. There was a six-wheel version built in Britain, known s the “Sussex” which was used by the RAF in WW2 as balloon winch trucks.

I know that one is a Merc, but wasn’t it based on a Jensen Tempo,or the result of some sort of tie up between the
two companies.?

A few oldies from Orkney, NMP’s. Les.

Hi, I have looked at the cab section of the green lorry, and with its split windscreen, it is very much like what became the Ford 4D series cab.
North Western Gas Board had dozens of these Fords, the earlier ones were V8 petrol, some were 4 cylinder petrol, referred to as a Costcutter,
and the later ones had a 4 cylinder diesel engine. Some of them were rigid 4 wheelers, and some were artics with Scammell hitch trailer coupling.
Some trailers were tippers for bulk deliveries of coke, others were 25ft flat beds for delivering bagged coke to peoples houses, schools, etc.

Cheers, Ray.

The Mercedes works team used those transporters in the fifties before they withdrew from racing after the Le Mans disaster, they were capable of over 100 mph.
