The Pointer Invincible is interesting John as it is a longer wheelbase than the standard unit and also the 5th wheel looks to be set well back and over the axle. I wonder if it had been built as a âspecialâ by Guy Motors or was it âstretchedâ by the likes of Primrose ! Cheers Dennis.

Actually Dennis this GUY wasnât stretched or a special build, it was originally a four wheel tipper. I built of model of this Invincible LCL 158 many moons ago when new, from a GUY book I have. I havenât seen it in this guise so very interesting. Cheers Franky.

OK Franky we could be âkicking offâ another Guy fantasy here !! If that unit had set off life as a 4 wheel tipper it would, IMHO, have been a âWarriorâ with probably a Leyland 350/375 engine and an Eaton axle but it is clearly badged âInvincibleâ which would have put it up into the heavy end of Guy chassis. So what do you reckon ? have you any more info to impart or do we have to wait for the Big J 8LXB âUnicornersâ to pile in with their ideas ! Anyway anything âGuyâ is always interesting to me ! Hello, Interesting to see the photo of the Rewbridge Atki eight wheeler. As a youngster when I started driving I drove an ex Rewbridge Bedford TK. YCY 419. When new to Rewbridge it was a six wheeler with iirc a Boyes third Axle and had a Leyland 350 engine but when I drove it it had been converted to a four wheeler.

Ha ha, aye Dennis better get in quick here, I can tell you it had a Gardner 6LW 112 bhp with a 5 speed Meadows 450 Transmission, although I have another magazine where it claims to have the 6LX engine. LCL is a Norwich registration (as expected) from Jan 1958 to Oct 58. I wonder if the tipper work eased or the Invincible had been superceded by multi axle motors so they decided to put a 5th wheel onto it and give it a nice little job, which if fitted with the 6LX it would handle the work, it certainly had a change of livery going by the above photo, I know Pointer tended to have slightly different colours depending on the type of work. Hereâs the as new pic of it in tipper form. Franky.

Well thanks for the concluding explanation Franky as that motor would seem to be a rarity and I noticed that looking at the axle end it certainly didnât have the Eaton so might it have been a Kirkstall drive axle the same as ERF used ? Questions questions I know

Specially for Buzzer, the total is 44 now, having a long lunch yesterday with old friends the conversation prompted me to remember Rodney G. Closs, a former colleague at Midland Storage who later started on his own with turquoise coloured motors in association with a NE haulier, David something. Also M.J. Gleeson where, before my driving days (I passed my test while with them), I was a chainman (surveyors assistant) building the A 52 Stapleford and Sandiacre by-pass and well before that, a short stint selling Catholic Bibles door to door in Derby.

Here is a photo I took in 2005 { I think} when the restored Rottinoff made its maiden trip around Alice Springs in the annual parade.
The one in the bush at a station in the Halls Creek area 0f West Aus was used for carying portable yards for use in areas where it was difficult the hold cattle while droving them several days to permanent trucking yards so the portables were erected cattle mustered into them and trucks would go into pick them up with sometimes with the help of a grader or small bull dozer it was on one of these trips I made my first viewing of the Rottinoff shown in the sketch prior to its retirement, I had no knowledge of the truck prior to this or I would have had a closer look but I was lucky enough to be in Alice when the one I photoed was on display, it received its full paint job later that year.
I donât know if the other one is under refurbishment at this stage or if it is just used as a spare parts department or which was the one I saw on the station.

I enjoyed most of them, those were the ones that lasted the longest (11 years with Courtauld/Toray as both manager and later driver when the Japanese influence started to pall) but I suppose the most enjoyable at the time were Midland Storage and Shawâs, because both of them often left me as a free agent to roam the country finding my own loads.
Now, you only posted the photo of Bassettâs Foden so that I could repeat the story about after tipping in Stoke one day I ran into Bassettâs for a âbackâ load. They had a palleted load all neatly roped and sheeted on a shiny brand new blue trailer bound for London and Reg Bassett himself came out to talk to me. He said his lads would soon have the sheets off and a forkie would whisk the load onto mine. Eyeing up this lovely trailer as well as my own rather well worn one, I suggested that I could save him a load of trouble. Why donât I leave my trailer here for you to load while Iâm gone, and Iâll deliver London with yours and load it back for here? The glint in his eye was unmistakable ânot on your life son, weâll tranship it, itâll be no troubleâ.
