Parking in gear

never remove a battery from any vehicle once running ! unless said vehicle is electrically built 4 that to be ok and it says so in handbook , battery is part of a complex elec system, trust me on that one !, one exeption i remember, >racing cars , they i beleive are jump started in pits , but they are seriously “different” from road going vehicles,.

in my opinion bad idea as a diesel engine once started you can take the battery off and it will still run I think as no spark plugs, so what if the brakes failed would it bump start itself ! and bugger off with you asleep in the bunk :open_mouth: suppose some mechanic will put me right …just a thought

On old engines aye as they never had anything as basic as a stop solenoid (a magnetically charged switch) which cuts the fuel supply when you turn the key off. You’ll find it on the pump and was an ideal thing to rig a switch too as an immobiliser.
